This is pretty good. We've all had a day like this at one time or another.

Looks like plan A should have been SEAL YOUR MAST then read catsailing for the 90s. That crew guy was quick to get control of the zodiac.

If you reach the point of turtling what options do you have aside from a tow back to shore?

Pull it up?

That was honestly kinda scary to watch.

You just sit on the most leward stern on the boat and lean out. It will pop right back up to being on it's side....that is...if your mast doesn't leak. If your mast leaks, your screwed.

Pretty cool; we've all been there. I am surprised, though, that none of the cat racers commented on the poor positioning of the sailors on the wire; a non-horizontal position that gave little control over the boat.

A stingray you say?

Never seen one.

What is that, a 4 foot beam?

I DID like the underwater footage.

The boats boats I've been on turtled, luckily always recovered by getting skip and crew on the lee most stern.

I guess that if you knew the mast was not going to recover, as in full of water, taking it off might be as possibility, I don't know that I'd have done it though.

I've been thinking how lucky we are to have this video. Do you think that the guys just happened to have the headcam on a day where everything went totaly to bits OR IS THIS JUST A NORMAL DAY FOR THEM?

I think they are doing a Clark Kent/Superman thing. The skipper is all over the place until things are really bad and then he gets into action man mode diving down to do this and dismantling all that. The crew is even better, he pulls of his 'What shall I do now?' act pretty well until the rescue boat goes airborn - and he lets his alter-ego take over.

I want these boys on my team - they're not fooling me.

if you watch the other videos he has posted on vimeo, just to the right of the cat. video. you can work out a little more about nick martyn

1. seems to be an aussie film student? living in tasmania

2. better windsurfer than cat sailor. perhaps that's why he seems to have been hiking so high at 45degrees?, which meant not enough weight on the trap ring, which meant unhooking when he hits that wave, which capsized the stingray

3. keen snowboarder, loooooong video of a snowboarding holiday in the south island of new zealand but captures the place well and the open, tree-less expanses of the southern alps

How about using your spinnaker halyard to "hoist" a personal flotation device down to your submerged spinnaker bail? Obviously, unhook the spinnaker first. Just a thought.

The windsurfing video is taken at Doran's road, I can watch the windsurfing and the cat sailing from the balcony. they are both wearing windsurfing harness's so that explains the height issue.

I do know the boat, have not seen it in years though. last time i seen it it looked a bit sad.

The Mast rotation seems to be there but not being used, notice the mast is fully rotated.
