Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | Anyone got a picture?
I think I did it right today and it works, but I have a nagging feeling I should have more than 2:1 on the Halyard.

Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | My jib also goes all the way down to the pole. I'm taking some mates out for a play over the next couple of weeks. I'm also thinking about sailing with all 2 sails for a bit of a giggle. Handicap drops mind... 0.913 (T is 0.935). I guess I'll be flat wiring in about 4 kts

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | Simon, some are rigged with 2:1, some 3:1. On my old boat (GBR527) it's a cascaded 4:1!
2:1 at the tack and the line from this comes back along the 'sprit, terminates in a Harken mini ball bearing block which is part of a 2:1 arrangement with a clamcleat. This makes adjustment really easy for the crew in all conditions.

Does this mean you can move the jib up and down the forestay (to an extent) as both the tack and head are on a 2:1? I just tied off the tack clew to the hoop that the Spi pole goes theu and put a 2:1 on the Halyard. I'd consider puting some sort of hook up top as you want to strech the sail and not the halyard (as per the T's) - Thanks to Phill for reminding me about this. Not planning to sail much like this, might do the Piers with 3 sails if it looks like all day (but the handicap drops to 0.913!!!! - T is 0.935!!!!)

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | No the tack is fixed - what I meant was the halyard comes down the luff of the jib to a 2:1 at the tack. This 2:1 tail comes back along the bowsprit onto another 2:1 giving a total purchase of 4:1.............

I'm lost as to where the following attach.... 1, the top 1/2 of the cascade; one end attached somewhere, goes around a block on the halyard and then attaches to the 2nd 2:1 cascade 2, The second cascade (the only one I have) is attached to the cleat that is on the pole (so Pole clkam cleat top, block, thru clam cleat and cleat).

Posts: 1,382 Essex, UK | I don't know if this pic is clear enough to help? The tail of this 2:1 purchase terminates in a single Harken mini block the same as the ones in the pic. This block is then subject to a second 2:1 purchase via a Racing Clamcleat mounted on the bowsprit just in front of the mast. Jib Downhaul
