Guys,

The old neoprene boots are getting soft, slick, and stinky. I am doing A-class, short course stuff. Before I randomly order another pair, does anyone have some they think are exceptional?

PS. I did try the converse all-stars years ago and hated them. Also not wild about bare feet either.

what about bare toes? I love my Zhik Ninja boots and they protect my feet where I usually wear the tops of my feet and ankles badly. I would normally sail barefoot but I usually get abrasion on my ankles from knealing on the trampoline / non-skid and I don't like stepping on shells and rocks barefoot when hitting the beach.

I also have a full boot-style Zhik that works well although I don't like how all of those types of boots collect and retain water. I've also had all sorts of shoe-type Sperry's and the like and have a new pair of Sperry shoes that I like. However, durability with the tennis shoe styles doesn't seem that good - I go through about two of those in a season rubbing through the tops from the non-skid or the trampoline.

I also have the Zhik boot style. They are fine, but the water retention is an issue as Jake says.

I have some hard soled diving shoes(low cut) that Im liking more and more for the summer. The $50 soft sole diving boot has been good to me for 20 years now,but they have to air outside for a few days after using them...wheeeew
Maybe its time for a new pair or a fumagation, but their so comfy!

I love surfing boots with the split toe. Would normally go barefoot for short course racing, but when looking for sun and abrassion protection they are great to still be able to feel the boat and have good grip on rounded surfaces. Not too expensive either.

I am sorry, did you say you have 20 year old dive boots? 20 years???? i am lucky if i get 20 weeks out of boots.. before i lose one (or they self destruct).

I use cheap hiking shoes from Target - no more than $25. They have a stiffer sole than tennis shoes and seem to hold up to being soaked in sea water. I typically rinse with fresh water once back home and dry them (and all other gear) in the garage with a dehumidifier.

These hiking shoes look rather similar to some Sperry products - but the pricing is a lot less 'sporty'.

I have the zhik booties and like them for winter racing.
