Hello,

It probably isn't very polite for someone new to be asking questions straight away, but here goes anyway!

I've just purchased a secondhand Stealth and I'm trying to find out what the handicaps are for the various configurations. I'll mainly be singlehanding the boat and will probably not be using the spinnaker for a while yet. I have both the original (small) singlehander sail and the fullsize doublehanded sail. The boat has the short dagger boards at the moment but I should be getting the "R" spec ones.

Can anyone let me know what the RYA PY or the SCHS numbers would be for some or all of these configurations (or where I could find them)?

Thanks

George

Oops, you did ask for SCHRS and that is ISAF [Re: George_Malloch] #18018

All ratings are without spi and big jib unless specified otherwise;

Single hand and small main (13,75 x 7,43 mtr) big boards = 1,07
Double hand and bigger main (F16 main I assume) bg boards = 1,01

Single hand and small main small boards (13,75 x 7,43 mtr) = 1,09
Double hand and bigger main small boards (F16 main I assume) = 1,02

I also assume you have the big jib of 4,9 sq mtr.

If not than double hand with small jib and small boards = 1.07
double hand with small jib and big boards = 1.05

Double hand F16 main, small jib + spi + big boards = 1.01 = F18/F16 rating.

If you have to use PY in your Club, someone in the UK recently made out a conversion chart or a number to multiply, or divide by, to get PY numbers from SCHRS. ron@gconnect.net will be able to put you in touch.

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies.

Wouter - it seems that my "big" main is actually the "small" main you mention. There seem to have been three Stealth mainsails. The smallest was apparently an original option when the boat was first launched - I've been told that I'm too heavy to use it unless dogs are getting blown off chains (although not everyone who has said that was quite as polite!)

Dermot - we do use PY for club racing. Those who understand these things have worked out a conversion factor by dividing the PY by the ISAF for a Hurricane and for a Hobie 16 and then averaging the result (I think - I'm a words person not a numbers one!). The end result is you multiply the ISAF handicap by 687.768 to get a PY. And I'll still come last.......

George
