We now have an F18 trailer that will be able to act as shore support in the event of a catastrophic failure. Hobie Tiger Frank will be following along.

Quote
Daisy is going to follow with Frank. 2 trailers , mine has triple rollers in the back with cradlesthat fit the tiger, and cradles up front.

That is all fantastic! Thank you Frank and Daisy!!!

I know the rest of you are thinking what the heck to these guys need with so much support? The Tybee teams should have so much.

We are not really a long distance group so let us ease into this thing. 75 mile here, 80 miles there...maybe we can get to the 500 mile races and not be too overwhelmed.

We are really lucky to get so many of the same boat (Formula 18) out for this race. Pease and Jay said that if we could get a group of 5 boats they would sail their Capricorn. If not they would be on a Tornado. Since we need 8 to make a class that is what we had to do and here we are. Nothing but Fun!

Later,
Dan

Just a thought.
Chris was looking for a ride from So Cal. Has anyone been able to hook him up yet? I know he was going to try Dennis and John , but if they don't make it can someone else? He was going to crew for me since Daisy can't sail this weekend.

I talked with Chris yesterday. He is all set. If we double stack with Mike Kramer he will be in the truck with the three of us. If we do not he will be coming with Mike Friday morning. I mentioned that the Mustang would be tight for three of us and he chose the roomy truck.

Later,
Dan

You guys watching the weather? The delta is the central valley's AC system - usually the hotter it gets around Sacramento, the harder it blows through the delta.

weather underground (wunderground.com) shows that Richmond will be a high of 58 and Stockton will be a high of 79. Is a 21 degree differential significant?

That's a relatively low temperature for Stockton, would indicate lighter than normal wind.

There has been a 40 degree difference in temp between the bay and the central valley until the last couple days, with strong breezes. The forecast is for fairly mild temps (ie under 80 degrees) this weekend, so wind may be much lighter. But as long as there is some gradient, you'll be fine. One thing to watch, though, is that if a weather system is superimposed the flow can actually reverse. I haven't done the ditch "run" but it wouldn't be as much fun as the delta ditch "beat."

Have fun!

With all of the gybing and hot angles, several of our F18 teams logged over 110 miles during this years Delta Ditch Run. Thank you to all of the volunteers, SSC the RYC and everyone else that helped out. Pretty much everyone except maybe 2 boats went swimming at some point during the race. No major injuries that I'm aware of in the F18 fleet except self inflicted damage at the party. A Hobie 20 had a bit of gear failure and ended up stuck against some pilings and had to get towed off, but other than that everything was outstanding!

Every time I'm on the water with this group of West Coast F18 sailors, I am reminded about what great people are attracted to catamaran sailing. I like watching sailboat racing, and a big thanks to all for the great entertainment!

Pease and Jay hooking up!

Only 9 minutes difference between the first F18 and the Formula 40 cat? That is pretty cool.

Looking at the monohull results, I guess the multi sailors where home with their feet up before the first one finished grin.

This boat capsized later down the course due to an override on one of their spin sheet winches. We took the injured crew back to the Club. Our only real 'rescue'.

In. Dan and I talked this morning about a coordinated package to attract cat sailors and make the logistics easy.

You went nearly twice as far as the course estimate and you still beat me on an overloaded Olson 30 by 1 hour 20 minutes. I think I saw you cross San Pablo bay three times.

My first DDR, had a great time, the winds weren't nuking, but no more leaners for me; even reports of beach cat wreckage strewn about the course won't get me back on a slow boat.

Alright, respect !

The two of them sailed for 11 hours and 8 minutes !

Where the fastest F18 cat did it in 5 hours and 30 minutes (3rd over the line behind F40 and a D-class catamaran.

Even the slowest leaners did it in about 9 hours 30 min except one who spend 11 hours and 3 min on the course.

That is was a long sit for the Wave crew and quite possibly also a lonely trip !

I admire their spirit !

Next stop ? The crossing to Cuba !
