While looking for leak points on the hulls of my P19 I came across something interesting. I noticed a hull through-tube for the trap bungee could be spun with my fingers. So I decided to remove the worn exterior grommets,seal the alloy tube in place without removing it, and seal in new end grommets. Well, the alloy tube easily came out with one of the grommets. What was interesing was that the through-tube had a small drain hole at the midspan. I assume this is so water would drain out of the tube and into the hull to prevent corrosion. With a total of 4 tubes, quite a bit of water would be able to get into the hulls.
So my options are:
1. Reinstall the tubes with 3M 5200 (for a flexible joint)and seal the drain holes.
2. Reinstall the tubes with west systems epoxy(rigid joint)and seal the drain holes.
3.Plug the hull openings and leave out the tubes and reroute the trap bungees. The front bungee could go through the front cross member but the rear trap bungee would be difficult to reroute because of the tramp-hull attach channel.

Can anyone suggest the best way to repair this?

the holes could have been there as hull breathers to keep internal/external pressures equal and

number 1 above sounds good, turn the tubes and have the holes facing up for pressure equaliszation and down for water draining

As erice indicates I think the purpose of the holes in the tubes is to act as pressure relief vents. Trying to seal leaks in my P19 I recently sealed the holes one of the tubes per hull. However, I am still getting water and not been able to fully seal the hulls.

Thanks for the input guys. When I removed the tube, the hole orientation was at the six oclock position which would let water drain into the hull. I guess I'll seal the hole in the rear bungee tubes and leave the front ones open for venting. Ferminj, did you use 3M 5200 for the tube/gromment installation and were you satisfied with it? I'm getting about a 1-1/2 quarts of water in each hull for a day of sailing, which isn't bad for an older boat.

Erice, the majority of the leaking is comming from the top of the CB trunks. Getting the existing sealant out of the deck/cb trunk joint is hell. When I get it all out, I'll reseal it with 5200 which I expect will eliminate the remaining water leakage.

I just used silicone in case I have to remove the grommets later on. I also get 1 or 2 qts per side after hard sails and cant figure out where its coming from. I have even filled the hulls 1/2 way with water and found some small centreboard leaks that were not showing using pressure and soapy water.
