Boat - Prindle 18-2

Symptom - Centerboard slap form side to side (sometimes) while beam or broad reach making thunk think thunk thunk sound.

Solution -What I am thinking of doing is putting some APS daggerbaord carpet on one side of the bunk to lessen the slop.

My question is, do I want any sideways play in the center boards, or shim this a tight as possible without distorting the centerboard trunk?

Thanks

You might try the soft side of some industrial duty Velcro, available at Lowes or Home Depot. Put it on both sides if there is room.

no sideways play.. but you want to make sure its straight. the optimal way is to put your cat on workhorse (or similar), drop the boards and with level make sure you are good.

PS i use thick (foam) double sided tape and leave 1 side of the tape cover on.

Another option. On my P-19, when I refinished my boards I sprayed gelcoat up into the pivot tube hole. This hole was worn and the CB/tube fit had alot of slop. This made for a very snug fit for the pvc pivot tube into board. I also replaced the lockdown button and this completely eliminated any movement of the assembly.

Centerboards only tend to clunk around when they're not loaded- like you said, when broad reaching. In that case, just pull them up, they're only causing drag anyway.

You are probably correct... when i said i use tape .. i actually only do it on the forward and aft well walls (to avoid damage from pushing the boards up or down)... i dont get much jigglin/rattlin when under load.
