Posts: 3,655 Portland, Maine | We had wind this year too - plenty of it on Saturday and just enough on Sunday to make 2 races out of it. The party at this regatta is insane. All you can drink liquor drinks - live music, awesome cuban food, beer truck... its got it all. No wonder it was such a good party, come to find out that Mike Krantz was in charge of it all! HA! Some pics - I donno who to give the credit to, but as soon as ole Kirk tells me I'll update the post. In the meantime go to his site at SailLanier.com I donno if the results are posted yet - the scoring was a little wonky and needed to be amended via some redresses and so forth. The RC that was running our races was a little overwhelmed, I think there were like, 10 different classes starting on our course and only three dudes on the boat... we were finishing our races before the second to last sequence was starting.... made for some interesting but fun racing down at the finishes! Dodging Opti's and Flying Scots! (as evidenced in the photos below) Higher res shots available on velocitysailing.com Update, photos taken by David Jackson ![[Linked Image]](http://www.velocitysailing.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/TVS1_Reggae.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://www.velocitysailing.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/TVS2_Reggae.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://www.velocitysailing.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/TVS12_Reggae.jpg)

Unregistered | Andrew, since you are posting on the Reggae thread, I presume you are violating your "no travel/no race" consitution, and are loading up for the 8 hour trip.
Mine is 4 hours and I'm outta here now!
Sorry Jack.... when I crewed at the mini macho man (you raced against me and Catman) was about the extent of my willingness to travel to race (yes at my local beach). But i am 100% behind you guys who live/love to race. I think one of my biggest hesitations is my lack of knowledge of the rules (that and because i am slow... ). I did agree to race again at the Liberty Race (even skipper) because my 74 year old crew is holding me to my word.... he has promised to "learn me" some rules...

Not knowing the rules shouldn't keep you from racing Andrew. 99% of the race you are not close enough to anyone for it to matter. Especially where you race. If someone yells at you, so what. Use that as a learning experience. If you are uncertain about your rights, just keep away from close encounters. The only place it gets close is at the strat. Just give everyone space until you know what you are doing. If you lag back a little, you may even be better off than some of the guys fighting for position. You are not going to be racing in a race where it matters. JUST DO IT!

Can't do it!!! thats the part i really like fighting for position at the horn, first at the line then tactically beating everyone around the mark(s).. and hearing the finish horn (first). Please don't think i am against racing. i am not

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | I only need to know a few rules to race:
- don't hit the committe boat (don't ask me how I know) - don't hit other competitors (or at least get caught hitting them) - don't be last to the beer tent. Clean your boat later.
Optional: - Keep marks to port - cross start line after red flag is raised - stay on starboard tack at all times
See? Racing rules are easy!

Then nothing you say makes any sense. You prepared your boat for racing and seem to have the desire to compete. You sail regularly at an awsome place. They have races almost every weekend. You have done the hard part. Read the book and git yer nose in there boy!

Unregistered | Then nothing you say makes any sense. Am i required to make sense? Is that in the rule book? If so.. i don't know the rules! You prepared your boat for racing How did i prepared my boat for racing? I recently added 3 blonds... it didn't seem to make me go faster (but funner) They have races almost every weekend. They have 5 or 6 races a year where i sail. (5 last year). You have done the hard part. There is an easy part? I didn't know that... is that in the rule book too? Read the book and git yer nose in there MAN! I can't take the time.. i am to busy answering your post I told you, i ain't against racing.. i prefer to island hop, eat cheeseburgers and drink rum! (and pirate cargo boats in Somalia). If i am gonna race, i prefer not to do distance style (even though i am gonna July 5th). I don't trust my trailer to go far.. nor do i want to. Nor do i want to work on my trailer for even 1 munite... I have participated in 3 sets of races in this past year.. and i have committed to crew (with my 74 year old mentor)in the fall... When they start giving cheeseburgers as prizes (or consolation prizes).. i may race more... Did i mention I am not fast?

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Scots and N20's on a cross.. cool.
The future is integrating with the Yacht club world. Helping the YC to manage our requirments is key to success for everyone.
Course design is one key... previous threads discussed Waves to N20's.... West River just had great luck with a new course of theirs for Flying Scots (spin boats), Albacores (sloops), Lasers (main only) and A cats.
The A cats had a standard long weather leg and offset (large and visible). C mark was set below the finish line which was to starboard of the RC boat and you finished to weather.
The monohulls sailed to a closer A mark (smaller) and then used the Pin end of the Start line as their leeward mark and their finish line was down wind through the original start line. Everyone sailed two WL lap races and nobody seemed to have a cross with the A cats. The RC got the course size just right so the breaks between the rolling starts was just about right.
Anyone else have a winning mix and match course design story!

What is the color sequence now? For the "regular" sequence, not Rick's special Tradewinds sequence.
