I am thinking about pulling the trigger and buying a real boat cover, has anyone purchased on of these and if so has it held up?

I had one, before it "walked away" and it was fine for what it was... a custom-cut tarp with tie-down straps :P

Looks like something a guy could make pretty easily with a large tarp, a pair of sheers, and a grommet kit, and for a lot less money!

yeah those NICE covers are worth every penny though. Take a look at a boat (like mine) that sits under tarp cover, and then a boat that sits under one of those covers and you'll see the difference immediately.

Yeah, you really regret writing that check for those - but you can use them for trailering too. It's awesome pulling them off a boat that emerges constantly nice and shiny.

Depends on what you are looking for. I have the same material on my boat. I cut it to size and sew it on a regular sewing machine. I make a new one each year to year and a half. I am just now making one. I started cutting it yesterday from the old one. I pay about $30 for a 20X12 foot tarp, not much for the tread and about two hours of cutting and sewing. Once you get the first one done, consecutive ones are easier with the pattern. You can mess it up and fix it easily as the cost is so reasonable.

If you want a cover that will last about 5 years at one time you will need to spend pretty big money on it, like the one you mentioned.

Another thing you can do is make one out of the plastic tarp and make the second one, after you have lived with it and like it, out of a canvas tarp with the first one as a pattern. About $100 for a 20X12.

Later,
Dan

Contact Harken. They make a trailerable cover. It's quite nice.

Kinder Industries in Bristol, RI can also make any covers you want. They just made 4 sets of hulls socks for some infusions up here. The owner is also an excellent cat sailor.

I was in a remnant shop last week and they had bolts of sunbrella fabric at $2 a yard or less. The fabric is used by so many industries today that the price has come down and its readily available. Is doesn't hurt that I live so close to the manufacturer, Glen Raven Mills is located in Burlington, NC.
Check out your local fabric store and make your own covers!

Kinder makes a real nice cover, not sure about road worthiness, but the 1 I know about is a "yard cover".

My 10 year old a-cat has a 10 year old Kinder yard cover on it and although I had to sew in some new velcro, it still looks great.
