So, I'm going on a roadtrip across the western US with my brother and a buddy, and we're hoping to many rent a cat somewhere in these two cities?

If anyone knows where I can rent one, or has one I can borrow, please let me know.
I have good experience sailing, and have placed at a few races, including second place in the Texas Catamaran Championships laugh
We'd have no problem putting a deposit to ensure we return the boat how we received it.

There's a couple of Hotels that have some plastic boats for rent in Mission Bay. Someone here will have the details, but I don't think there's any place else. California is the land of litigation, lawyers and insurance companies, so it's pretty difficult to just rent small boats here. Most small boat rental places that I know of require some sort of certification, and usually from their courses. Insurance companies like boats with motors on/in them, so it's actually easier to rent powerboats or sailboats with engines. We used to rent cats off the beach here in Santa Cruz, but those days are long gone.

No cats though, unless things have changed(back):

Good luck.

about 6 years ago, we (my family and I) had rented a condo on Mission Bay. During our stay, I was able to rent a Prindle from the large marina at the south end of the bay. All it took was "sure, I now how to tack", $65.00/hour and a drivers license. We were not allowed to take it out of the bay. I tipped it over with my daughter on board and thankfully there was a very nice H16 sailing around who dumped off his crew to help right the boat. All in all, it was a great day even with the lost watch, eye glasses and soaking wet camera.

No idea if they still rent cats or not, but that was not really that long ago.

Here is a link to the marina
I lied, here is the real link
