Posts: 5,525 | I keep hearing about, may I have some more detail? To do anything with my wife, one must plan months in advance. She is constantly bugging me to do that all night spook thing at Disney. Anyone know anything about that? I'm considering blackmail; one for the other.

Posts: 5,525 | Go where!? Hiram's is the best kept secret in sailing. If there are no pix (or nor, or SI, or motel adress. . .)it didn't happen. I'm beginning to think this might be a "snipe hunt".

Especialy if you want to wet your appetite for distance. It is easy - There have been Waves who run the course. The party is top notch. You can look up Capt. Hirams on the web. The Key West Hotel is part of the resort and right across the street. No logistics, great part of the river to sail, etc. The NOR etc is on Scotts site www.perfsail.com I think, or there is a link on the www.1design.net site. | | | Re: Hiram's Haul

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | whaddya need to know, Pete? Most of us have been doing it for years and years.
Set up is now at a nice park (I'm tempted to say Eau Galle causeway?) with a ramp, walk/sail your boat up 200 meters to Perf Sail. Start and head south 25 miles to Sebastian and beach at another nice grassy park.
There's three bridges(?) to go under. One has a fishing dock that goes almost to the main span. I keep forgetting that little part until we're about 500 yds away (you can see it unless it's raining cats & dogs like last year. So rainy in fact that we missed the turn for the finish line slightly and almost lost line honors on day 1)
Captain Hirams resort is pretty cool, and I think there are one or two other places to stay.
Best part, you'll see pretty much anything that floats on two hulls there, from H-14 to N20, spin and non-spin. Mark brought his A cat last year.
With your F16, you could choose whether to go uni or sloop that morning I suspect, depending on conditions...
You will be happy you decided to sail this one, regardless of weather conditions. I've been through drifters and tropical storms on that course (Sometimes at the same event!) and even managed to break down on one or two of them. One of my three favorite regattas..

Posts: 5,525 | This is a two day race? Down the river first day, back the next?
Where is the actual launching site (street address)or park name? Something I can find on a map. Where do you leave the trailer?

Posts: 72 Florida, USA | Pete, this is a real date-race-weekend. We start at Pineda Causeway on US-1 and race S. to Capt. Hiram's in Sebastian. Someone going that direction (usually from Scott Hubel's group, I think, or Lisa H.) will drive our stuff to Capt. Hiram's while we race and it is all there upon arrival. But, so will Debbie be with your stuff. We have a few drinks and talk a lot about the racing of the day, stumble to our rooms, shower, have dinner with more drinks and then a bit of dancing. You should see me dance! Then, depending on my mood, I will either pass out (poor Matt) or go to bed of my own volition and wake up with a slight headache. Many times it is a "fall back" weekend - time change. After breakfast, we race back to Pineda. Date over. You'd like it.

Posts: 5,525 | Deb will definitely be with the baggage or part of the baggage train. Sounds like great fun! Count us in. Is there a pre registration site? I must lead a sheltered life. Never heard of monkey butt before!
