Sounds like your forstay is too long. Make sure you don't have any extensions on it at the top for some wierd reason. If the forestay comes straight off the shackle and down then you need a shorter forestay. Available from this site.

Is there anyone here that has the P19mx mast rake values handy? I used to have a tuning guide that had rake, diamond wire tension, etc. in it but have misplaced it (many laptops ago). I just replaced all my rigging and forgot to take the rake measurement before derigging. I eyeballed the rake this weekend and didn't get much helm, so I think I am close to target, but just want to make sure.

Further to this, what is everybody using for d-wire tension? I measure ~600lbs currently.

Hey Shannon:

I have the tuning guide for the Danger Sails Prindle 18-2. Don't know if that will help much. PM me you email and I'll send it to you.

Hi Shannan

My P19MX is in the backyard ... mast down ... but if my memory serves me, my mast (when set up) is approimently 12" BEHIND the transom as measured using the trap wire or halyard. you'll need to hold a straight edge along the shear line (upper edge of deck/hull) of the hull. Somewhere around here I have a Randy Smythe Tuning Guide, don't know where though. Basically Randy raked the mast until it would just miss hitting the mast base on the crossbar when the mast rotated. Note you will nead to really loosen the rig to get the step pin in and raise the mast.

My D-Wire Tension is in the same range ... Randy spec'd 2" of mast pre-bend. I replaced my stock D-Wires w/ DieForm wire to help w/ the increased loading

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I had that same tuning guide but can't find mine either. The 18-2 guide (I have this one) won't work for rake on the 19 since sail plan and mast are different. If you run across your 19 guide i would love to grab a copy if possible.

I was out this weekend in 12-15kts and was getting some weather helm, not too bad, but after 2hrs could feel it in my arms.

Thanks again.

Shannon:

Found this for you doing a little searching. Hope this helps?

Tuning Guide

Think there is a chapter in "Catamaran Racing for the 90'S" on the 19 by Symth.

Doug, thanks for the link. However, that guide is mostly for the 18-2 which is not entirely applicable for the 19. I have the Danger Sails guide and am looking for the p19 specific guide. Thanks for the info though.
