I am supposed to help a fellow sailor repair his carbon mast -A-cat. I have done this very successfully before. But-
Suggestions for finding carbon mast sections would be welcome.
Thanks.

I will be attempting to make one good F17 mast out of 2. Once clean break and one crushed for about 18". Cut a piece out of the crushed one, trim off the sail track and squeeze it down for an inner sleeve- say 18" long. West system epoxy it in place.

I would appreciate any advice and/or details.

better yet use a section of the crushed one as a mould for a sleeve.

1. Cut a 2 foot "good section" of mast
2. cut it down the centre line.
3. Lay one half of the mast on a flat surface and laminate on some flanges.
4. Introduce the other half and make some matching flanges.
5. drill bolt holes though flanges.
6. cleanup and wax inside of "mould"
7. using a vac bag lay up sleeve in mould.
8. fix "clean broken mast" with sleeve
9. grind and tape over joint.
10. that was a much bigger job than you planned but the result will be better.

No equipment for vacuum bagging- just basic hand tools. I have repaired aluminum masts w/ inner sleeves and rivets or outer sleeves (depending on available spare sections) up 46' with good results.
