Posts: 3,906 Clermont, FL, USA | There are two US teams entered in this event with team Robbie Daniel/Gary Chu in eighth after the first day. Team John Casey/Claske Boschma are currently 24 after the first day in a very tough field. The younger Booth is sailing with Calfornian Jacques Bernier in tenth. All sailors are or were Florida residents at one time. It must be something in the water. The host is doing a nice job with updates and timely results, if you're interested have a look. Results F18 Worlds Home Page The forecast for today is more light winds however tomorrow promises to be a bit more lively. Oh, the black flag was brought out amost immediatly and yes some top teams got hit. Even though it's been a light air affair so far it hasn't been shy with the drama.

Doug Well I guess the results reckon that Carolijn Brouwer and Elke Delnooz are male. Last time I saw them they both looked pretty female to me. Frederique Pfeiffer and Françoise Dettling are an all female crew. A couple of tough French ladies who have kicked my but a few times on their distinctive bright red Hobie Tiger. There look to be a few more female skippers lower in the rankings as well. Unless Sarah is a popular boys name in England Chris.

Posts: 1,203 uk | the prescribed International F18 course is 2 laps.
Anyone that survived this morning is doing well. They are having a break ashore now to get their breath back before a couple more races this afternoon to get the qualifiers finished [I assume].
Any idea how they get the results on the net so quick? Its almost real time. Its not helping me get any work done atall this morning. I've got one son doing this and one son racing in Brazil, so i had better just give up work this week and watch the net all day!

Any idea how they get the results on the net so quick? Its almost real time. That's because it IS realtime, they're wearing GPS trackers http://www.f18worlds2009.com/tracking I recall reading somewhere that there is a maximum of 5 races max per day (which makes sense I guess, 5 races in 20+ knots is very hard work). The qualifiers are finished now since they already did 2 races on Monday (2+4=6 races). It looks like the wind is slightly offshore, I bet they are hitting ridicilous speeds going downwind in that flat water. | | | Re: F18 Worlds Started Yesterday

Posts: 1,203 uk | Each boat has only done 4 races each so 2 more are needed
I thought that only the top 10 are carrying trackers, it would explain it if they had them on every boat tho'

No more races today though: "15:10 No further races. All races are cancelled for today." | | | Re: F18 Worlds Started Yesterday

Four races in 3 hours!, assuming they do 3 laps each race they must be going very fast!
Damage after 3 hours or racing: -broken and folded(!) masts -rudders -smashed bows -broken halyards -heavy bruises -ripped mainsails -bent spreaders(!) -tramp problems -broken battens -ripped gennakers -holes in hulls -broken trapeze harnesses -snappes joysticks -torn jibs -loads of capsizes -mainsail torn out of track(!) Tony, I assume you are watching from the beach?
