I am considering putting wings on my cat can you guys tell me what advantages these provide, will they improve the speed of the cat as I can get out further on them on a wire? Never seen them on a cat before other than in pictures, I believe hobie make 3 types was considering the 2 foot wide ones? Thanks Devon

Hobie Cat USA makes seats / wings for the Wave and Getaway only. Neither is designed for trapeze use. We discontinued wings for the TheMightyHobie18 awhile back.
Hobie Cat France is the only ones making (trapeze) wings at the time being and those do not fit TheMightyHobie18 or 16s. They only offer one style now as far as I recall.
We have never made them for a Hobie 16 (this being the H16 Forum). They would make the H16 VERY prone to pitch pole. Better as a seat or back rest like we have for the Wave. Once you trap out you load up the boat more and drive the hulls lower in the process. Since the H16 is already a bit light on the bow volume... it would be a bit more likely to pitch pole.
Thanks for the reply Matt, my cat can be sailed either 1 or 2 up as I sail alone I will have heaps of volume in the front so the trap wings would suit me fine. Can the H16 be raced 1 up? that would lighten the pitching, add some mast rake. Dosent the trap wing extend way back behind the tiller? Could you put some flares on the front of the hulls im sure i have seen them before on a cat. This would help stop the pitch pole and so cheap and easy to do. I can see some big changes coming to multi hulls with the Americas Cup now racing in multis. Kinda a slap in the face for the ISAF for kiking the T. HA HA

Hi Devon. I've been looking at putting wings on my Nacra F18. I used to have them on a Hobbie 17 Sport. They are great when you sail with the family for comfort and hikking out on them is quite a thrill. Nacra used to make wings for there cats a while back.
Would you be modifying Hobbie wings or do you know of some kit that can be purchased?
Mary it ia an Aussie Inter17 Nacra, 17 feet long. Captain D I havent called Nacra boys yet to see what they can do and I would be surprised if they would have any thing, I guess that I will have to modify Hobie wings to suit as I havent found any kits out there as yet. Sorry to post Nacra related on Hobie I will post if I find anything useful Thanks
