does anyone know some dimensions of the TheMightyHobie18 boom, like the length, the smaller axis of the cross section and the distance from end of the boom to main attachement point? trying to rig a carbon tube instead of the OEM...

thanks!

Will you incorporate an outhaul and a mast rotation limiter into the carbon tube?

It might take me a couple of days but I can get you the dimesions. We are still a month from sailing up here in MN. It's time to get things tuned up...

Good luck with your project,
Todd

this rig is going on a Tremolino trimaran. yes, the outhaul will be incorporated but not sure about the limiter - may trim it forward of the mast. also will have some kind of a reefing setup.

thanks,
s.

I've been thinking of doing the same on my 17 boom since it seems that the previous owner broke then shortened the boom.

What weave / weight fiber cloth do you recommend for a structually loaded spar like this? I was thinking about doing a couple of spiral tape wrap layers then covering it christmas-gift-wrap-tube style with a finer weave.

I have the TheMightyHobie18 boom dimensions you were looking for. Sorry it took so long. The boom is 8' 9-3/8" long, 3-1/2" high and 1-7/16" wide.

Good luck with your project.

The early h17 booms had a problem. That is why the bales were moved, and the gooseneck was redesigned. Suggest you compare with a current model. The carbon fiber boom would be interesting, but not class legal.

thanks, tbosch, that was helpful.

the rig goes on a trimaran, so worries about the class organizations.
