Looks like it might go even further tonight. Somone on SA says they have done 813. Just bonkers!!!

On Groupama's 3 website they just posted a 24 hour speed of 35 knots and 838.9nm for the same period

Banque Populaire V just upped that to 35.7 knots and 856.1 nm

Banque Populaire V just upped this again to 36.7 knots & 880.1 nm, Groupama's best is now 35.5 knots & 851.1nm and it looks like they will loose the Transat record to BP V as well

**** thats fast. Absolutely amazing.

40+ knots like its nothing, note the almost flat seas in the middle of the Atlantic.

Geeze, Banque Populaire V just upped this yet again to 37.8 knots & 907.9 nm

41+! Wow! Seriously fast, now, why is the sea so flat? And did you hear how quite it was? What was the wind speed?

G3 is not racing against BP they are out to break there own record. BP is much bigger more powerful than G3

That is f'n amazing. It looks so smooth. 41 knots = 47 mph. That is not a peak speed either. They are flying along at a consistent 41 knots. Amazing.

Hat's off to the French.

We were up at Sheepshead Bay to attempt to compete in the "Around Long Island Race" last week. The three tri's were moored/docked about a mile away w/ these increadably tall sticks that towered above everything!!! I was still driving up when the guys took Triple Threat over for a look-see .... and came away just amazed. On Thurs afternoon we attempted to start in 30-35+ knot winds (gusts to +45knts) and 10-12ft seas from the east. Things started to break quickly and forced us to retire. The French Tri's waited for the wind to clock to a westerly and then .... it was "Time to Go" .....

Mark S, Tylar, and John Schlossberg had good look-sees at the boats.

The water is flat because they set up shop in the zone along the leading edge of the weather front where there is strong SW wind but where the waves have not had time to build. Because they are capable of sailing as fast as the front they ride it like a surfer on a wave. It looked for a while like BP might have miss timed their start and were in danger of falling off the back of the front but they motored right through it. Amazing boats.

I wonder if the surge (long long wave) in front of the front helps these things along.

Sailing is pretty old. Next to walking its gotta be one of the oldest modes of transportation. Yet some odd thousand years later we're finally figuring it out. How much farther are we going to go? Ten years ago the maxi-cats were destroying records, now those records are being smashed.

Really impressive stuff!
