Does anyone have a suggestion for an affordable hotel close by? I've tried Priceline and I'm up to a $95 bid on a 2 star, but I'm not having any luck... Priceline did me right about a month ago in Williamsburg I got a room at Courtyard Marriott for $50/ night (normally $150/ night)

The Days Inn about 16 blocks from Melody Ln is $159 per night.

I booked at a Days Inn about 12 miles away in Myrtle Beach proper for about $80/night but I booked a week ago.

This late, gonna be a rough I think.

I finally got a bid in on Priceline for $80, but I had to choose the area around Hwy 501 ... I got the Microtel Suites.. At least it looks new and clean.

Did you check Soccastee?(sp?) That is a little area behind the old airforce base on the 17 bypass. Used to be the cheapest hotels in the area.

This regatta was incredible; truly hitting the bulls-eye with regards to what we might have hoped to accomplish here. With boats ranging from simple waves, Hobie 16's and 18's with their picturesque sails, and the powerful "Nascar" style N20's, we effortlessly caught the attention and curiosity of everyone within eyesight of the beach and our course. The feeling, on more than one occasion, of having a hot milf pretty young mom in a bikini walk up and ask if their enthralled and wide-eyed child could touch the boat was quite fulfilling. To race in the ocean just a couple hundred yards off the beach and have a Le Mans start in front of crowds of beach-goers couldn't have been more exciting and satisfying. On Sunday, with light winds and a long drive home, RC did an A+ job listening and appealing to the racers in execution of the distance race, which kept many boats in the water rather than back on the trailers. Thanks to the Mayor of Surfside beach, Sail and Ski Connection, and everyone that made this happen. There's no doubt that if this regatta continues it will grow and be very successful.

Also, I wanted to mention that Jake Kohl has figured out the extra gear in the N20 somehow. The boy was DAMN FAST in the light and shifty stuff. He done put a whoopin on the fleet like I've not been witness to in a while.

That go-fast juice he's been drinking showed itself this weekend. Damn boy you gotta at least make it close for the rest of us!

Are the results posted anywhere? I would'a liked to have made it but I got Moseleyed. Maybe next year.

Who's doing Hatteras? I had committed to another regatta but If enough N-20s or A's are going I may do it.

It was a nice event. Jake and the I-20s really put on a show as they were the only boats that really moved in the light air. The surf comp and kayak demos were great as well. Some rental cats would have gone over well as many spectators wanted to go out if possible. My hope is that Surfside will see what happened and lax the no boats on the beach rule down the road.
I don't like light wind and combined with the new sail I was totally lost. It was just frustrating too me but I learned a valuable lesson, I am not interested in learning to sail in light air. It was so very obvious how much better a sailor David Strickland is than I. I have contacted the sailmaker for his input on the issues with the sail.
It was great meeting James and Kent. Thanks to Trey for helping out with the sail and tell-tells.

I donno about the results being posted anywhere... I think in the N20/F18 fleet (5 N20's, 1 F18) on Sautrday it was:

1) Jake
2) Mark W (nice racing dude, you laid the smack down)
3) Tad
4) Trey

Then on Sunday, the whole fleet was scored on PN:
1) Jake
2) Wave (sorry guys, I don't remember who you were)
3) Mark W
4) Wave

I also win the award for ultimate failure at hotel booking. Apparently the one I booked is well known for gang activity and had black mold on the ceilings when we walked in the rooms.

I suck at everything. Damn.

I once booked a hotel in Fort Myers online and most of the reviews said it was nice, but "noisy". So I'm asking myself how in blazes could a hotel be noisy. Boy did I find out. Loud music and fights until 5am with drunk people who can't find their rooms banging at my door. Now I know.

I should mention that we did get out of there and got into a lovely, affordable Comfort Inn at Surfside Beach.

You better not get Moseleyed for your hometown regatta.

I for one, know that I will not be making it to Hatteras. Simply too far of a drive.

I got Moseleyed for the Ya gotta Regatta, as in he was gonna be my crew (what was I thinking) but I may pull a Moseley at Hatteras.

I wasn't planning on bringing the IRS for ground crew, you'd have been way safer than you are at home anyway'cuz I gave them your address.I told 'em all I wanted was the trap set-up off your boat, they could take everything else.

The regatta results clearly document that Jake was the best that weekend at going slow (light conditions). Does Jake deserve a new nickname for this distinguished accomplishment?

I think this was the 16 & under class finishes from Sat
1st Thomas Stone (H16 single hand)
2nd Reggie Poplin (Wave)
3rd James A (H16 single hand)

It was fun mixing it up with the N20s, but hopefully there will be more F18s next year. Jake smoked everyone, especially downwind.

It was great to see all the old Myrtle Beach guys again. Thanks Ted, Bruce and Michael for running great races.. Thanks Charlie, Denise, and the rest of the Sail and Ski Connection crew for sponsoring and organizing. And thanks to Alan D., Surfside mayor, for initiating the race to begin with. The only thorn of the weekend was the accommodations... but they are trying to work out some rental houses for participants next year.. That would be awesome.
