Please, Catsailors, enlighten me.
What is the optimum length of a spinnaker pole? Can it be too long? Too short? Just right? How can it be determined?

I have a 14' FG pole and a factory Spin for my Hobie 20. I need to know the pole length before I place the tang up top..
Thanx in advance for your expert advice.

The pole I use on the Nacra 6.0 and the Taipan 5.7 is 15' carbon fiber.
My thought is that the longer it is the more it opens the slot.

Rick, I wish I would have seen your reply sooner....I just cut the damn thing to 12'.........

So, next question. How do you determine how high or low to set the tack end of the pole? Is higher better? Is lower better? Again, this is a hobie 20 with roller furling. And again, thanx for your replies.

It should be as low as you can get it without having the possibility of hitting a wave and breaking off.
