I don't care who you are rooting for, I think that Alinghi 5 is a great looking boat! (except the mast is to short)

As a sponsor ,I'd be pissed my logo was that small on that big of a sail.

Anybody notice the flag (wind indicator) on the stern of the stinkpot?

The lettering is still 6' tall or better...but yeah...

However, for all we know, they gave them a bunch of watches.

Ya, the sponcer was announced yesterday. You have to figure the deal has been in the works for a few weeks. That would give them time to make up a huge sail sticker.

"Anybody notice the flag (wind indicator) on the stern of the stinkpot?"

Ya, it's hanging pretty limp. 4-5 knots of wind?

There's been a lot of speculation but they (Alinghi) have not been out in anything but light wind yet.
BMWO on the other hand has been out in 12-14 knots and it has been reported that they saw to high 30s or low 40s.
If ether team goes with a full wing rig then you can expect a farther increasing in speed due to reduced aerodynamic drag.
There has been some wild speculation that we will see in excess of 50 knots. That would be fun to watch but I have my doubts.

Actually, Spithill has been on the record as saying that they have "Pushed 50 knots"

So DoGzilla has seen at least mid-40's.

Basically we have no idea how fast these things are and neither team will talk about it for obvious reasons. While they are very optimized for upwind and downwind sailing, I think they are capable of busting the 50 knot barrier. We won't know for sure until after the cup match that is scheduled for Feb....but at this point, I wouldn't bet on the match happening in February as scheduled.

And I wouldn't expect 50 knots to seen while sailing in RAK.

AFAIK you can reach high 50kts only with foiling or planing boats. When foiling the foils need to be designed as cavitating foils. In lighter winds this would be a huge disadvantage, so I have me doubts that they go this road.
