the next week I will buy a new one jib. it's better with or without battens ? which are the differences ?

Well, we usually like to know what boat you're putting it on.

Also, is this an aftermarket, or class legal sail.

Unless they are vertical battens, or very short ones at the leech, you can't furl a fuilly battened jib. So that would be a con.

With battens. Otherwise the leech will flutter.

do you want the ability to furl? this is a great feature to depower or beach the cat.. but if your primary purpose is racing.. i would think battens are desired.

Self tacking jibs i have seen have not had battens but they were furlable.

You can add small angled battens afterwords if needed


It might really be worth your while to talk with a sailmaker if possible, even better for him/her to see your rig

Most new F18 jibs are battened now. No requirement to furl.

With battens the sail will last a bit longer and you will have to take care how to put it away as you can only roll it so that is better for the sail as well.
