I am trying to find some smaller rings for the dousing points on my spin sail. I have some nylon rings from Layline that work but the knot at the head will pull thru the rings and the sail is stuck. I had thought about putting a plastic washer behind the grommet that wouldn't go thru the ring but am afraid that will tear the sail. I have seen metal rings on some sails but do not know where to get them or if they are stainless or Ti. I leave the rings on so I want to use a material that will not stain the spin. Also weight is an issue on the sail. What are the rings called and where can I shop for them?

Do you pass the tail of the dousing line (at the upper most dousing point) through a ring and then tie a knot to keep it from passing through? The F-18 spinnakers that I have seen pass the end of the dousing line through the sail via a small grommet and tie a knot on the other side of the spinnaker. Whatever strategy you use, it doesn't sound like you need to replace the rings - just make sure that your attachment to the uppermost dousing point doesn't come loose. The bundle of material that forms at the upper dousing point won't pass through the lower rings no matter how large they are... Any help???

I looked up on Google and found sources for what you want.

I entered: stainless steel round ring -jewelry

Later,
Dan

i used to use a plastic ball on my spin to help with seperating the patches durring retrevial (when it was new and stiff)

it may help handle your problem too. the balls are very light and don't stain

Stainless won't stain the sail?

This is a three point sail, the lower two are rings and the upper is a grommet on the sail. The knot on the back of the grommet and the grommet patch pull thru both rings if the tack isn't released at the right time. Multiple crew have had this problem, they forget to release the tack when they feel resistance I believe. The only way to fix it is stand out on the hulls and pull it apart by hand, the sheets cannot pull it out.
Maybe a Ti ring is the answer, can they stain a sail?

Ahhh..... I would try the ball idea before replacing rings. The spinnaker material shouldn't get stuck in the lower rings if the ball is too large to pass through.
Stainless is clean.
