Loose crimp or not fully making contact is easy to check. Suggest double crimps, like Hobie Cat uses on all new wires.

Regular replacement is a good idea. We just had a H-16 at SSP go down. Wires all looked good. Wire failed inside crimp.

Always replace any wire that has frayed wires, or any signs of failure.

I had the rigging professionally made by a rigging shop. When they remade the rigging they double crimped the stays. It all looked good but it pulled out so it was a loose crimp. Also it was the last time I used that shop, they are still in business all these years, perhaps small work was not their specialty.

What a scary story! I always ease the tension on my side stays after sailing, this should prolong the longevity of the wires and crimpes, I guess ...
