My harkens have had it and its time for a new pair of gloves. I like fingerless gloves best and have used harken black magics forever. I have tried some aquata gloves and didn't like them. What do you wear and why?

Wind was strong in N Myrtle this weekend! Had a great time double trapped.

I use Harken Black Magic full-finger gloves. Before that, I used Ronstan gloves, but hated how my hands smelled like a wet goat for two days after racing. I prefer full-finger, because fingerless gloves tend to ride up on my hands and I wind up with blisters.

The Harkens are fine for dinghy racing, but don't hold up well sailing keelboats. If I did more offshore racing, I'd look for a more durable glove.

Regards,
Eric

Go to your local Home Depot or Lowes and check out the garden type gloves I get leather gloves with a palm pad with no fingers for 4 or 5 bucks. A pair will last a year or so and work great

I like the Gill Championship gloves. Get them here at Catsailor or on clearance right now from Gill directly.

I just use the cheap West Marine brand, have been happy with them so far this year. For 20 bucks I'll just replace them when they blow out...

I have found (back when i used gloves all the time) the West Marine ones didn't last long for me. the cloth/velcro would tear quickly and the imitation naugaplether would wear out much faster than any other brand. I would pay the $8 more for Harken or Gills

The sizes are limited on the Gill sale. Anyone know what a women's size 10 is?

Magic Marine has some that are great. I also am a fan of the Ronstan gloves.

I like fingerless gloves best and also have used Harken Black magic's forever.

I have two pairs, one pair is 8 years old has survived 5 NAC's and one Worlds in addition to countless weekend regatta's.

They are worn and look ratty as all billy hell.

The other pair lives in my gear bag as spares, for when I finally give up on the old ones.

At this point, its become almost a joke with myself, trying to see how long I can make the original pair of black Majic's last.

I've tried others, but If I had to go and buy a new pair today, I would get more of the same. My thought is why spend money trying to replace something I already know I like.
Disclaimer: I can be a bit of a Dinosaur, I still love sailing the Original Hobie 18.

Let me clarify in response to a PM. I have short fingers with wide palms - very weird hand shape. I found, after trying lots of gloves, that the Gills fit best. I think you try lots and keep what works.

Re: garden gloves from Lowe's - very sticky, but the palms tend to slide around too much for me because the glove backs have little structure.

I like the Gill Pro Gloves. I can burn through a pair of the black magics in 3-4 days of racing. The Gill Pro gloves were just getting broke in by the end of the Tybee

I have thin hands and like the Gil product.

Wrinklie sews a patch in the palm of the garden gloves and swears by 'em.

I usually swear by the latex dipped gloves you can get at walmart for 2$. I know, however, most people hate them. They are awesome to hold line with but can be a little slippery on the tiller. Other problem is if you use them, they get salty, then they get hot in the sun the can leave marks on your bows when you are walking the boat into the water. the only way to get this latex off is to use acetone. Easy answer is to never use a pair after they get "sticky."

I used to swear by the rubber gardening gloves.

Then I tried the Magic Marines... they are stick as hell AND have great padding.

If they're not given to you in a sponsor deal they're pretty hard to find, unless your talking about the "dry glove". I did a search for 'em to try to check them out and couldn't find 'em.
The gill pro's are nice until you put another glove over them(think grinding a kite in the Tybee or Gt 300), then they make your pinky fingernails fall off.I think it's the way the seam is in the fingertip.

I like the Gil Pros (full fingered) for most distance stuff. As somebody else said, the new pair I bought for Tybee were just broken in at the end. There was a seam that started to bother my thumbs, but a little tape took care of that. Around the buoys I like the Ronstan gloves over the Harken, the Ronstan seem to hold up better and are stickier. Plus, for some reason, my cats seem to seek out the Harkens and pee on them. Honest.
