Hopefully the results will be posted. Can anyone beat lars in Bristol?

Despite the threat of Tropical Depression Danny spoiling the weekend, 8 A-class sailors braved the rainy and unstable conditions August 29-30 in Bristol RI. The unusually small fleet was largely due to the threatening weather forecast, a late regatta, and roughly ½ the local fleet unable to attend with other commitments. Defending champ Lars Guck was a casualty of the latter which meant the title was up for grabs. After a short skipper’s meeting the RC sent the sailors out to the confines of Bristol Harbor which allowed for easy course movement and a quick escape if the weather conditions worsened. All were challenged by the unstable wind and a consistent rain, but the RC was able to run five good races in varied conditions. Ben Hall mastered the tricky winds, showing great speed (especially downwind) and won the day with two wins and no finishes worse than third. Steve Clark, Danny Gorititski, and Phil Kinder each won a race, but Phil’s consistency pushed him to second for the day with Jim Godbey sailing well to finish third at the conclusion of racing on Saturday. The fleet & RC headed for the showers, beers, and a wonderful meal prepared by Phil & Blaire Kinder and Nan Hall. Many stories & laughs were exchanged in the confines of the BYC. Putting to rest any doubt that A-class sailors can’t party, Ben, Nan & team NJ headed into Bristol at 10PM for a late night dance and rock session at Judge Roy Bean. Sunday conditions were tame by comparison but unfortunately the wind decided to take the day off as well. The regatta was called at 1PM, allowing the NJ team to pack and prepare for the I-95 battle. A great leftover lunch and beers were served during the awards presentation.

The Bristol Yacht Club would like to thank all the competitors and volunteers for attending and we hope to see you in 2010.
