Got some cat racing history to share in pics? Please add them!

I started sailing on H16 in 1979. My father was working at Valk Sailboats in Columbia SC and had the first 16 in the midlands. Our very first race was out of Charleston Yacht club, a SAYRA event. Lots of Hobies entered, I want to say over 20 16's in A fleet. Managed a 5th first time out. His local knowledge of the tides, currents and sandbars offset the lack of boat knowledge. I was only about 145lbs back then, so we were not overweight.

Found these in the bottom of his trophy case. Since they were not silver or crystal, he did not bother to put them out. I rescued them and will put them up in the garage. The little ones are crew trophies.

Post 'em if you got 'em!

It's hard to read (cheap phone camera) but it says:
5th Annual
Salter Path Regatta
NC State Championships
2nd 16B
1978

Bob Poteat won B fleet; John Ross-Duggan won 16A (how do I remember this stuff?)

This is not my oldest trophy, just the nicest oldest one that's on my office wall.

I think they are more personal than silver.

Since they are hard to read-
1979 Hobie Fleet 53, Division 9, The Sandlapper (funny, my Mom used to be editor at The Sandlapper Magazine)

1979 Hobie Fleet 141 Fifth Annual Points Regatta

1981 Hobie Fleet 141 Division 9, Second Annual Pam Walker Memorial

The Artists were Olin Pate and Valerie May in '79 and Olin and Valerie Pate in '82. Look like pen and ink with acrylic for the color.

Hobie Fleet 141 was revived by Tommy Whiteside in 1990ish and is still alive, but not as a Hobie Fleet. The name has changed to resppect the History of Hobie and Hobie Fleet 141, it is now called The SEACATS....Familar?

In the early 90's there was the Pam Walker Memorial Regatta at Columbia Sailing Club where the locals tell me there were over 200 boats(all Hobie's). That was before my time, but I have heard this from many people around the club. They said the cat sailors always had a good time.

The men were amazed, and said, "What kind of a man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?" Matthew 8:27
