34th Annual Birmingham Sailing Club Cat Caper

Scheduled for 10/31 and 11/1. This regatta has been run annually for 34 years (yes, 1975 - it may have had many names but it has always been the last weekend in October), since it was introduced as a staple in the SE racing circuit. It's storied past includes NACRA Districts, Hobie Points events and 40+ boats in attendance. Not to mention the solidification of sailing friendships over the years.

The club has embraced the resurrection of multihull sailing and has enjoyed the multihull presence at open regattas. The club's largest Open regatta (BSC Ironman) had it's first multihull fleet in 4 years. The multihulls certainly caught many member's attention - and led to the interest of exposing our junior sailors to multihull sailing.

Please help us prove to the BSC Board (and $$ contributors) that this regatta is worth hosting.

Fantastic on site camping, full clubhouse/locker rooms/kitchen, good food, great social time and top notch racing.

Please email me at - tshannon[at]bcbsal.org - if you have any questions.

NOR to be posted at Birmingham Sailing Club very soon.

This is a really fun regatta, I've done it many times. I plan to be there again (on a Viper). Don't forget your costumes for Saturday night! There have been some very funny and memorable costumes in the past.

We at BSC certainly appreciate the support, especially since you guys are missing the Area D-North Alter Cup Qualifier (Oley and Joanna won it last year). We will certainly try to make this the best Cat Caper ever.

Any boat, any type multihull is welcome.

Bring it on!!!

Final preparations are being made for the 2009 Cat Caper. The NOR is posted on the club website (www.birminghamsailingclub.org). We are attempting to bring this event back the stature of the late 1980's and early 1990's. We are keeping all the great racing Saturday and Sunday, but adding a ton of free food and an optional day of racing/sailing/cruising – participate as much as you like.

We are working very hard to ensure a good turnout and even expect a full fleet of A Class boats this year – in addition to F16, Open Spin and Open Non-spin. If this event is not on your list – you need to double check your calendar!!!

Some highlights of the weekend are:
1. Optional fun race(s) Friday afternoon (maybe a distance race up the lake)
2. Friday night Dinner and Welcome Party
3. Saturday Lunch by a legendary local BBQ establishment
4. Saturday dinner from City Hall Diner (everything is GOOD)
5. Saturday night music with a costume contest and kid's games/prizes – BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY; trick or treat at the regatta site
6. Sunday breakfast with lots of coffee
7. Sunday lunch from Subway to make the drive home a little easier

The Club is fully behind this event and wants to see it be a huge success. Come out and join the fun!!!
