FWYC put on a great event for 30 teams from around the GYA this past weekend at the GYA Multihull Championships. Five races were sailed in 8-14 knots of wind over the weekend. Two divisions raced. There were 23 teams in the beach cat division and 7 trimarans (6 Corsair trimarans and a Multi 23 trimaran) in the PHRF division.

In the beach cat division raced under the Portsmouth handicap, FWYC's Bob Curry dominated the corrected time scoring on his F-17 singlehanded cat. He was followed by Nigel Pitt sailing an F-16 Blade and Jim Leonard from Birmingham Sailing Club sailing another F-17 catamaran. Curry was awarded the Tucker Perpetual Trophy for the top sailor in this division.

In the PHRF division, Randy Smyth of FWYC and Bob Hodges of Pont YC (both racing Corsair Sprint 750's) were tied on Saturday night with 5 points each after three races. They matched raced each other in the two races on Sunday finishing both races within a boatlength of each other. Smyth won overall with 8 points followed by Hodges with 10 points. Tammany Yacht Club's Wayne Jablonowski was not far behind in third with 12 points so it was a good showing for Lake Pontchartrain sailors taking 2nd and 3rd in the fleet. Randy was awarded the Smyth Sails Perpetual Trophy.

There was also team scoring in addition to the individual scoring and four teams were eligible for the Buddy Pollak Trophy which was won by Fort Walton Yacht Club. Finally, the Lundquist Trophy is awarded to the boat with the fastest overall elapsed time in the combined racing and it was awarded to Brian Lambert sailing a CFR-20 catamaran in the beach cat division.

Sam and Jennifer Grant again did an excellent job organizing, running, and participating in this event. The race management was great (thanks Phil for waiting on the seabreeze on Sunday).

+1 great event.

Waiting on the seabreeze was a very good call on Sunday even for someone 6 hours away it was worth it.

I chartered Nigel my boat for the race. Proof that my boat is fast... when I'm not driving it laugh
