Hello all,

I am hoping for an answer to the question...What is special about a "Hobie Alter Signature Model" boat. Mine is a 1982 Hobie 18. Lighter? Better? What?

Mine had EPO rudders the better rudder kick up system and Harken hardware. Other than that it was the same... I think.

The basic 18 had clear anodizing, seaway blocks, etc. The special editions would have harken gear, black anodizing, hull colors, epo rudders. Some were nationals boats.

Alan,
When's your departure date?
Like Thadiseus (the not so great philosopher) once said "don't drop your crocs".Maybe ankle tethers are in order.
Good Luck and I'm looking forward to updates.

My departure date is Nov. 2nd. I am leaving on a 2-1/2 year circumnavigation in a 40 foot yawl (1966 Rhodes Reliant) as part of an educational program called Eye of the World who's mission is to bring the world to the middle schools of America via a travelling classroom...sailboat. www.eyeotw.org that was started by us and is now a non-profit. Tbe boat is at Crown Point marina in Gloucester, VA if you want to come see it. We will be putting her back in the water on friday.

Last year, maybe the year before, my wife had a student who was going to some remote area of the Pacific to put on a Shakespeare workshop! No doubt many will think that a waste of time and money but we think it was pretty cool.

Bon Voyage!

Very funny. It's not like we would have come in first if I hadn't turned around. We might have beat the kayak though he pulled in a few seconds ahead of us but we couldn't see him.

"40 foot yawl (1966 Rhodes Reliant)"

That is awesome!! I work with Dan Rhodes, the grandson of Philip Rhodes, the designer of the Reliant.

Best wishes for a safe and fun trip,

David
