Our friend Zoe Hawkins send this great shot and description from the HSBC Premier Coastal Classic: Greer Houston, the owner of Dirty Deeds, said they were doing 18-19 knots and stuck it into the back of a Young 11’s wake. They went flying forward, the boat backed out and they carried on sailing. They went soft for about an hour then decided to man up. The finished 7th overall out of 200 – not bad for an 8.5m!

As for the rest of the event, since 1996 it’s seemed like the holy grail of coastal racing was pretty much unachievable. But this year two records tumbled in this HSBC Premier Coastal Classic, raced this weekend from Auckland to Russell in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. The first was set by the supermaxi Alfa Romeo, the first boat to sail the course in under seven hours. Dan Slater’s Frantic Drift also secured a new record for multihulls under 10.66m, getting in under eight hours and averaging over 17 knots for the duration of the 119nm course. www.coastalclassic.co.nz

I didnt attach it, only linked to the one from SA.
(When creating amesaage click on the 4th icon from the left and paste the URL of the picture).
You can only attach to a max of only 100K, but there is no limit on linking apart from the dimensions it is displayed at (which IMHO is way to small).

At least (so it appears) the cat didn't foul the monohull in the process. Photographic evidence is usually inconclusive, which is why it's somewhat discouraged in protest hearings.

Anyway, there's no reason a picture on the web should be that big (filesize). If it's only going to display 400px wide, it can be much smaller.

Regards,
Eric

I thought it said the boat was an 8.5m. Isn't that something like 28 feet?

Good point, I just got done sailing a 16 foot boat for a week so 28 feet is ginormous!

It packs a lot of giddy up in a little package, and goes downhill like a scalded cat! I was impressed with how hard you could push the Viper downwind. I'm still very much in love with my Infusion though, for me size does matter.

You'll need to ask her that yourself.

its built to the 8.5m rule box

on the page below you&ll see a modified crowther24 tri that also fits the class rules

http://www.multihull.org.nz/image-gallery/gallery-1005.htm

http://www.multihull.org.nz/image-gallery-gallery/8.5m-fleet--sc1032-1005.htm

the boat pictured burying it&s bows is dirty deeds, one of the most successful of the current designs, below
