I see you are located in the UK. What is the average wind strength you will be sailing in? Most F18's will handle 400lbs. in good wind you should be fine. Sailing in light air sucks anyway.

Find a local cat sailing group and go talk to them when they are racing, you can see many different types and ask lots of questions, maybe get a ride too.

In Margate, Kent, probably looking around the £2000 mark to start with. I assume spi stands for spinnaker. If so either with or without. Will to learn.

How you move around the boat is very important, especially in light air. You MUST try not to rock the boat LOL LOL. Move like a cat REAL slow.

With your criteria there is only one serious option really, the Hurricane 5.9. Big bonus is there are numerous clubs with them in your area/easy distance. Check out club details via http://www.catamaran.co.uk/UKCRA_Home.html There are also links to the class association via the site 'catamaran portal'. Get down to the clubs and speak to the sailors.

Yup. Hurricane 5.9. Or an Inter 20 if you can find one.

Colin,
I trust you have been to Minnis to discuss this. Lots of cat experts there and I believe there may be a local Hurricane 5.9 for sale as well.

good luck
Bruce
