A while ago while righting the cat I heard a load crack when walking along the inside portion of the hull. (I am 175#, so weight may not have been an issue, although I also remember once climbing on top of the crew to get the leverage to right the boat). I can now tell that the inside hull opposite the centreboard is soft to the point that light hand pressure deflects the hull 1/2 to 1 in.
I have read previous posts in which other P19 owners have removed the decks to conduct repairs. I think this is the best way, but isnt the centerboard well glued to the deck?. The other option I think would be to open an access port (large in the 1 ft x 3 ft range) to strengthen the side, however, with the centerboard well in the way, this doesnt appear to be a viable option.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom in this area will be greatly appreciated.
ps I tryied to load photos but cannot figure how the load image icon refers to an URL??

Yes the daggerboard well is attached to the deck!!!

To fix/rebuild Randy Smythe's Sandwich Island-Worrell 1000 P19 (Serial# X001) that my friend owns we cut a "Baywindow" in the inside side of the hulls 6" high by 48"long to access the inside to replace all the broken bulkheads fore and aft of the centerboard trunk. Nothing too technical ... just be sure to bevel the edges of the cut ... think of carving a pumpkin!!!

You maybe able to just reinforce the outter skin w/ a couple of layers of additional cloth/epoxy .... are there any cracks visible??? It's hard to tell w/o seeing and feeling the damage

Thanks Harry. What do do think about using a dremmel tool to cut the upper lip of the daggerboard well just below the deck then lift the deck out allowing unimpeded access to the inside of the hull. After repairs are done I then have to seal the top of the deck and centerboard well. More work you think?.
Removing the "window" will require to seal the cut with tape first and then I am guessing 2 or 3 layers of cloth.

In the first option most work is inside (out of sight) in the second theres some fairing to be done....

The centerboard wells on my P-19 aren't very stiff so matching the walls up after cutting it might take some doing. You may have to glass in a backing plate to help mate the surfaces. I've repaired cracks in my wells by laying layers of glass over them and still had clearance for the boards so you do have the room. Let us know how it turns out. By the way Harry, what mods did Randy do to his Worrell 1000 P-19 ?

Jack, yes I was thinking about how to mate the deck w/ the inch or so of centerboard well to the rest of the well and have not though of a solution. How does one remove weight from the boat.. I think I have a way to get cheap NidaCore...Maybe replace bulkheads with this material?

I think that boat was laid up with the intention of doing the Worrell i.e. no removal of weight, cuz it was never there.
