just paint the mast white with your basic latex paint... 2 good reasons for this; less hot to handle so less expansion and after it peels off in about a week you can change its color for the season and keep it fastionable....... smile

Nope...Myth Busters tested that...Helium or Hydrogen filled football doesn't throw any farther.

Adding anything with mass (ie any type of gas) will increase the mass (therefore density) of the mast compared to having the mast evacuated.
