Since we are talking about mast dents and repairs, this would be a good time to mention a new use for the hobie bob.
Say you had a heavy mast(hobie 21se), and your e-z step pole rings decided to seperate(since upgraded). The Bob almost acts like a pillow, with just a small dent on the sail track. But, now I have to fasten it back on. I plan on using stainless bolts through the comtip. Does anyone see a problem with it? Thanks

I had an TheMightyHobie18 w/ the big HobieBob and comptip. I also had an accident raising the mast with the EZstep, and the lower eye that hold the Bob’s alum. base comes loose from the comptip. Originally they where attached using SS rivets, I drill two new holes in the comp tip an inch higher than the originals. I notice that the comptip was very brittle. I decided to permanently remove the HobieBob, I dont want the HobieBob landing on me or my crew if for some reason it comes loose while sailing... :-O

... But probably on a H21 you don’t have the option of just removing the HobieBob. The HobieBob really gives a peace of mind when it comes to capsizing and the possibility of turtleling , I think it would be impossible to unturtle a H21 without a crane ;->
I thought of using like a small SS tang that can be attached using maybe 4 or 6 rivets, then drill two holes thru the tang for the SS eye to pass the Alum base. But I just did not bother doing all that...
