Check the Portsmouth Tables out. They have been updated to include the weight modification factors. Our voices have been heard. Thank you Bob Curry for following through, from all of us "Fat Boys".

It's funny - when the weight mods were put in, everybody screamed bloody murder. "How dare they presume to think that weight has any effect on performance?" "This will drive out all the teams sailing at correct weight, now that people that are too heavy are given an unfair advantage!" "This will be the end of male/female teams!" Blah, blah, blah. They even put the clause in to make it optional, and to be used for local events only to appease everybody. When the corrections are removed, people scream to get them back!

Hey Keith & Don-

I recall a thread about the crew weight issue about three years ago. Bill Roberts, myself and a few others tried in vain to get a change. Basically the same attitude. Thats the reason I dropped my membership in US Sailing.

Also Keith, I believe you have more boats in your fleet than anyone I've met.

Thom,
Yeah, nothing sparks the fire like a good discussion on crew-weight! As someone who is regularly above 200 lbs, I certainly have experience on my "unfair advantage". I do remember those threads, I probably put a word in or two, and I have definite feelings about it, but since nobody uses the weight corrections, to me it's a bit of a moot point. I give US Sailing the credit for at least responding to folk's requests about the issue - first by making it optional, second by removing it (they probably thought that's what people wanted given the previous uproar), and then by reinstating it per request.

My Fleet - actually there's a few more than in my tag line! Add to that 2 kayaks, 1 jetski (yes, yes, I know...), 2 incomplete windsurfers, and a Sailfish knock-off I built when I was a kid! Maybe it's time to reduce inventory... Nah!!!!

My fleet area is maxed out for now...unless I want to move onto 20 acres. My last ex told me the sails as well as my dog had to go outdoors for good {instead of the livingroom [sail loft] and entire house for my puppy}. She left that day. Why would she want my sails out in the weather much less my pup??? Sometimes I just don't understand what some people are thinking...

have a good season,
thom

Thom,
You should have sent her down to see OUR house. She would have considered herself lucky and realized that hers isn't so bad after all. There's a Laser sail in my living room that somebody left here after the seminar, and also a pair of hiking pants. There are tiller extensions and rudder castings on my desk, along with rolls of duct tape and cans of WD40. The floor is a minefield covered with coils of rope and bungee cord. And I have been driving around now for weeks with a fully battened catamaran sail in my Honda Civic. I don't know whose it is or why it is there or what I am supposed to do with it.

Hello Mary-

I never asked her to ride around with a sail next to her ear but I wouldn't let her drive my Suburban either. She had to get by driving her car only. But Mary, any grown woman knows not to mess with a man and his puppy.

That is my Taipan 4.9 sail that Calvert repaired. I picked it up right after the start of the Tybee 500 and, as you know, was scrambling to get to the first finish line.
Sorry,
Rick, the slob

Hello Don-

I looked at the tables and with the designed max crew weight for a 22 being 450lbs I'm curious as to what your crew weight total is???

I have two tri-babe cyclists that want to crew for me on my 22. Total weight would be around 410lbs for all three of us. Also the view ain't bad either...

Keith,

I noticed the image has been swapped. With that fleet, maybe it's time to add an animated GIF to give them all a showing.

Not a bad idea! Except I figure I might get run out of town if I put up pics of jetskis and keelboats!

Now, if I take the two kayaks, add some crossbeams and the sail from Sailfish...

Hello Thom,

The minimum crew weight on the ARC22 is 325#. I think you may have looked at the actual minimum boat weight, which is around 415#-420#. Anyway, on our boat, skipper and crew weigh in at a combined weight around 440#, so you and a couple of crew members coming in at 410# should do just fine. And, with a view!.....that's hard to beat. Come see us in the Florida panhandle sometime. We have 4, ARC22s racing , and 5 makes our own a class!

Hey Don-

No the actual designed max crew weight for a 22 is 450lbs according to Haberman. The max crew weight for the R30 is 650lbs. I guess I thought the tables applied to max crew weight rather than minimum which on the 22 is 325lbs as you said.

I was planning on coming for the June 5th event but I must get my F25c out of Pcola soon and it may turn out that pick-up date will fall the last week in May [next week] or the first week of June. I can't handle two boats in Pcola when I live in Dallas. If so I can't take off much more time until the fall.

I have been have knee problems since I got the 22 but thats done now and I plan on getting the boat out this year. Maybe the July event. What needs to happen is to get Haberman out sailing his boats...
