Happy Thanksgiving to all the Americans and Canadians on the forum.
I will be thankful when the flood waters subside - The river Shannon is in Ireland - CORRECTION ! At the moment most of Ireland is in the river Shannon. http://www.clare.fm/flood

So Dermot, is it Carrick -on- Shannon or -in- Shannon that my ancestors lived?

Thanks for the well wishes, I hope you dry out soon! Is that the remnants of Hurricane Ida that just missed us in Gulfport last week?

That's the place Tim, and a lot of the town is in the Shannon at the moment. You got out just in time grin The lows have been rolling in off the Atlantic for a month now, bringing lots of rain. There are times that I wonder what we're doing on this soggy bit of land off the west coast of Europe.

Dermot, there was a guy at the Global Challenge last week who is an American but has been living in Cork for about the last 10 years, he wants to bring a Falcon or Viper to Ireland and see if he can get a fleet started. I told him about your web site and told him to look up Neil. Is Neil in the Cork area?

Yes, Neil is in Cork, neil((at))catamaran.ie. They are mostly sailing F18s and A Class there. But all our National events are on SCHRS. It would be interesting to see a F16 here. I think that they would be best sailed 2 up here - with our strong winds. Depending on where he imports it from, he may have to pay duty, and will have to pay 21.5% VAT. Maybe he should just get a Spitfire grin

I told him about you and the Spitfires, he talked about trying to convert some sailors of A's and F18's to the F16's. Is the Spit considered F16 there or a one design of their own class? I'm sure I can talk Matt into coming over with me sometime to give it a go on a new Falcon, I'll bring the rum.

Matt??

The Spit is One Design. The only F16s we have seen here are Stealths and each one has been different - so they do not hold their value. The As are fanatical over here - so no converting crazy The heavier crews are on the F18s and Hurricane 5.9s and the lighter crews are sailing Spitfires. Those not hugely into racing are on Dart 16s and the new Topper cats http://www.catamaran.ie/cats/index.html

They have been in the beginning but since 2002 all Stealths are F16 compliant. Any mods from one build to another are therefore refinements or adaptations to personal taste. Not too important with respect to performance.

I agree Wouter, but that is why the Spitfire took off in The UK and Ireland, and not the stealth.
