Hey all,

Putting a snuffer on my Sprint 750, and am curious as to the evolution of the mid v. end pole snuffer on the Nacras. What was the reason that snuffers went from the end of the pole to mid pole? Windage?

Also - how big a deal is windage v. a wet sock if run under the tramp. On the 750, I am concerned that we will have a very wet sock if we go under the tramp, but we will definitely have significant windage if we go above it...schools of thought?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

C.

Imagine the very beginning of a foreward pitch...

I am a big fan of endpole snuffers for the ease of use. There is talk of windage but this is the first time in 5 years of sailing Formula 18s that I have a midpole. That is because the boat came with it and Eileen says fine for now.

later,
Dan

You really don't want all that weight and drag out there off the front of the boat -all the time- upwind and down, and it gets wet out there too.

You could run a mid pole snuffer on top of the tramp if you are worried about it getting too wet under the tramp and that would make it easier to access if you wanted to swap spins or something during a race (to replace a damaged spin). Or, you could do what the J boat asym guys do and just pull it back into the fwd hatch via a belly button line, keep it dry, no drag, no muss, no fuss, usually...

As a former 105 guy, we tried it. Doesn't really work, and we're worried about water intrusion in heavy seas.

Good point on endpole v. midpole on snuffer in seas.
