Idaho - Famous Potatoes!
[color:"purple"] [/color] Well, I just bought a 5.2 last year, and it is reasonably rigged. But, I need suggestions for upgrades. I need a new mainsheet - any suggestions? What are people doing for those jib leads and adjustability? Barberhaulers? Any pics would be appreciated. What about main halyards? I think I have the top mast lock deally, but being I am sailing on a mountain lake (Jackson Lake, WY) that is infamous for storms that come "out of nowhere" I would like to be able to drop the main immediately, on the water. I have the centerbar design - which is better? What are some 5.2 resources? I notice the net is surprisingly lacking in that respect. Any info on adding an affordable asymmetrical chute? Any help?

Erik

whoa whoa whoa!!! one at a time!

do a search on this forum for "5.2" and there's a good deal of information there. We've just had threads going about the jib rigging and halyards and such here:

Here is the gear I bought to replace the stuck stuff

Mainsheet: Harken 7:1 low profile system with Samson Ultralite rope.

Barberhaulers: The N5.2 deck is small enough, I don't feel the need to have them.

Center bar: I have sailed a 1987 without a center bar. I have a 1982 w/centerbar. I think the center bar boat is stiffer, but your crew won't like it.

I know nothing about spin. add-ons. I personally don't think it requires one.

It is no big deal to drop the sail out in the water. Pull the halyard straight down, rotate the mast, easy out the halyard line. The sail should come loose easy.
