I was driving over the causeway just south of the tampa airport yesterday and saw a fliped over and apparently abandoned Nacra (i think) in the southeast corner off of the causeway in old tampa bay. It looked like a early 2000's model f 18 maybe (i was going 75 mph). Anyway, someone should claim it or fix it or something. It looked very sad out there, mast in the mud, no sails....anyone know anything?

Hopefully there won't be a follow-up story of a sailor washing up elsewhere in the area...

haven't heard a word about it... we (tampabay sailing club) had a breakfast on Jan 1 (since the race was canceled) and it didn't come up at all in conversation..

I have been over the Howard Franklin a couple times this week and haven't see anything. Maybe its on the Courtney Campbell, I have not been over that bridge in some time.

from the description above i think it is the C.C. causeway... i have never seen any cats sailing up in that part of bay.. .but since i dont sail there.. who knows. I know they (mono's) do launch from the pinellas side of the bay (Phillippe Parkway) and i guess a cat could have been blown over to the tampa side.. but seems unlikely to me..

Not true! We talked about it but when you don't show up until 10:30 for an 11:00 start you miss the good gossip. Plus you missed the hard downpour at 8:30. grin

Doug with the Nacra 5.7 knows the who and where of the abandoned boat on the southeast Howard Franklin. Apparently it was semi-turtled with it's mast in the mud. Some people launch from Picnic Island near MacDill AFB but that's south of the Gandy bridge and I don't think you can't get north to the HF bridge. It would be a narrow sailing box between the two bridges. Mysterious......

Doug, you out there?

So your calling me a liar! Don't make me expose you for the charlatan you are!!! smile

Yes, i showed up at 10:30.. but considering i wasn't racing... and i knew it wasn't happening.. and i only showed up to watch you
capsize
.. i mean sail for the first time with a spin ... you got some nerve! haha

PS i have launched from picnic island a few times... what an odd place.. its an oasis surrounded by horrific industrial businesses and chemical pipes all over the place.. and then you are sailing inches away from probably the most important military area (in relation to our wars).... very odd indeed...
