Hey there,

Racing was at Cleveland last Sunday for Oz day and the Phil Briggs regatta - Phil still sails a Sabre and is 95 or so - just incredible - yes that age is correct. Hope I can achieve that !

Sort of passage style races out around the point and down into the next bay then return home. Looked very promising for the mossie with kite as should have had some good downwind and reaching angles.

Cat division with 5.8, A class and one mossie.

3 races scheduled with first starting in 5 knots which went to 0 - 5 and what could be only described as extremely frustrating sailing. Second and third races wind had come in at 10 - 15 or so.

First race caught up to some of the fleet on the downwind, not sure how as had no wind. Some wind came back in on the work back home and final short reach down to line even had to trap with the kite.

Race control shortened courses right down and next was a 20 min sprint with the A's doing it in 15 and one of the 5.8's coming away with the win.

I did not sail third as spinnaker halyard and clew pulleys were jamming and was very difficult to pull up and down - well almost impossible.

Had to leave straight away to drop a friend off at airport but have just checked results and got a first in the first race on HC or second on yardstick by 4 seconds.

That is so kool given I was contemplating pulling out when there was no wind and we were just drifting around. Just shows that you should always keep going.

Should be sailing again this weekend will keep you posted.

G,day Drew.
Good to hear your having fun. Is Hammish still crewing for you or are you runing cat rigged again.
I have bort 1704 off Ben and hopfully i will be racing this weekend so i let yopu now how i go. I have got the full spinnaker set up minus the spinnaker itself. I will probably sail the rest of this season with out the spinaker and if i'm feeling confident try the spi next season.

Karl,
Congrats on your purchase - that boat has some pedigree.

I sail cat plus kite when kids are not around and sloop plus kite when Hamish is around. The mossie works really well for this as yardstick is same at 80 for both setups.

Let us know how you go.

G'day fellas,
Mozzy# 1365 finally hit the water again just before xmas after more than two years in someone's back yard. I'd sanded and repainted the decks, fitted new inspection ports, tramp, trap wires, jib sheets and the heavy, rusty steel tiller bar that was also about 3 inches too long. After the first sail with the two kids on board I replaced the snapped outhaul and the rudder lockdown system with something that worked. After the next time out, replaced all the screws and bolts that weren't stainless steel and attacked the rudder blades and centreboards with the plane and sander to make them a bit more hydrodynamic- they were more like planks than foils and one gave off a terrific drumming sound when getting up to about 10 or 12 knots. One centre board also needed a litle repair after hitting a sand bank and sending my 60 something uncle over the front beam and then out the back between the transoms! Yesterday took my dad (75yrs) out on the Broadwater in about 15+ knots and had a ball. Dad used to sail a Mirror he built in 1970 and was spun out by how fast we were going. We went in after 45 minutes and dropped the jib then went out on my own for the first time- what a blast, had the wind hull flying easy most of the time, no noises from the foils, nothing broke, still yet to trap tho.
No racing yet either, still chasing up insurance. When I do at Southport YC there will be A classes, Arrows, various Nacras and Hobie16s to chase.
Drew, I would be keen to head up your way one weekend for a social sail at least, to see what other improvements I can make.
cheers
BJ

Hey BJ,

Kool to hear you are out on the water.

I will be sailing most Sundays at Cleveland until May.

Would be able to do a friendly sail on Sat here or there and could either come down your way or try somewhere up here.

You can come to Cleveland on a Sunday and just have a sail without racing if that suits. Will scare the pants off some with another mossie sniffing round. Any one listening.....?

Happy to help with the boat setup.

Hey Michael - where are you perhaps we need to get all 3 together somewhere?

Cheers,
