Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Rumor has it that the SORC is reinventing themselves and their circuit:
And finally, we're happy to break the news that SORC is taking over the venerable Miami-Nassau Race, a former jewel in the SORC circuit of old. Crossing the stream from South Florida to the Bahamas on November 11, often in seriously bumpy conditions, will rovide a real challenge to both navigators and crew. But the pain is short-lasting and the party in the Bahamas should more than make up for the pain in the Stream, and SORC expects a good mix of local and traveling boats.
Wonder if they'll let beachcats make this jaunt... At least there will be lots of boats around if something breaks...

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | You can always just show up and sail to the Bahamas on say...Nov. 11th. They can't stop you. Free country, international waters and all that. They will be more than pissed if you beat them however. ;^)

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | I think the F24 fleet should show up en force. Heck, how long would the crossing take in say a SE 15 kt breeze that shows up around 14:00 hours? Maybe the 18s and 16s could make it in one day....

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | It's only what, about 90 miles from FLL to West End? I think when we did the Macho Man my GPS showed 78 miles, that didn't take all day. OK, so there was no Gulf Stream involved, but still...
Of course we'd have to start at 8am, as a wise man once told me, "You have to start early if you're going to drink "all day".

Posts: 678 Palm Beach County | Cyberspeed has been talking about making a run across from West Palm Beach. Many years ago the Palm Beach Sailing club made an annual run over but that ended a long time ago. We use to race the J-24 over. Leave at night and get there before dark the next day.
