Well, I have finally had it with Canadian winters, and will be spending next winter in the San Diego area. Any suggestions on the beach launch cat scene, sail clubs, racing whether formal or informal? I currently sail a Tornado. Thanks to all who respond.

Alot of F-18's in the area. Mission Bay yacht club is nice. You going to bring the Tornado down or buy a boat here?

Don't know much on the so -Cal A class scene. Alot of F-18 action from san diego up to the San fran bay. I'm north so not much help there. But there are boats available. Check with the san diego crowd, Also John Williams Long Beach and Jeremy at Surf City Catamarans. He's out most of this week but will be back arround wednesday the 10th.
There are a few F-18's for sail and John has a sweet 2009 Capricorn, A few tigers are available, and The Wildcats are in stock at hobie now.
Hope that helps.

F18 and Mission Bay Yacht Club (http://www.mbyc.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=13&Itemid=26).

Mission Bay is a great protected sailing area with nice beach and ramp launching. Easy access to the ocean. Winds are commonly in the 10-12 kt range, but rarely 18 plus. For a breeze... Long Beach is right up the highway though.

There are a fleet of Formula 18s as well as A-Cats. Slightly better number of Formula 18s racing as a general, but not absolute rule. There is only one Tornado I have seen in years and that is Mike Dobbs. I am sure he would love to have you down for some competition.

If you are interested in the Formula 18 group you can contact either me or John Williams. There are many others you can contact as well, we just happen to be at this forum on a regular basis.

I live in Long Beach and have an email list for the Formula 18s on the West Coast with which I try to inform everyone what is going on. I know most of the F18 sailors in the area. For that matter most of the A-Cat sailors as well.

In San Diego, if you are interested in A-Cats, you should contact, Dennis, Matt, or Ian. They are all at Mission Bay Yacht Club.

Good luck with the move,
Dan DeLave
