A Greg Ketterman designed the Hobie Getaway and the Hobie tri-foiler.

Building a monster Tri-Foiler perhaps? (though I would believe the I20 masts to be very much overkill and weighty for that)

Hmm...jake's idea seems sound, but that thing would be ridiculous! He could be designing two of something else (i.e, one prototype and one testbed with the same rig), perhaps a new 20 footer for Hobie?

Only other thought is putting together a serious Worrell campaign, although I would think mainsail condition would play a factor in that purchase.

Anyone know the current status of carbon mast availability? I know they are hard to find used (never mind trying to get 2) but is Nacra still making them new?

Sam: yes the masts are available if specifically requested.

Greg K is all about speed and is probably designing the World's fastest boat...again. He designed one before and has since lost the record. That was Longshot, Russell Long's trifoiler. They had three world records in sail size categories, I believe.

Dan

I have a used I20 mast. It was broken and repaired. Would make a good back up for someone.

What he really means is that his talented and generous friend Bill fixed his broken mast for him for free and now he wants to sell it for extra cash.

Looks the same though it is not all the same. Longshot was very light, did not have the conveniences in launching that the production boat had, and the boards on LS were designed to do 50kts. The boards on the production boat were designed to not break. Not the differences like apples and oranges, more like track Ferrari to street Ferrari.

Later,
Dan (Tri-foiler test pilot)

My intention was not to say those were the same. I know longbow and the trifoiler are different beasts. One is a sport car, the other one a F1. But I'm amazed that a 15yo boat can still win at one of those events... Granted the wind was light and the max speed was under 20knts, but still...
