Hi All,

With the states on soon we are wondering if a few would like to get together for a warm up race on the bay (those not going to Eden). At the moment a couple of us are planning on meeting up at Rye on the 21st Feb.

Just had an awesome couple of days sailing at Rye and it doesn't get much better.

Racing starts at 1320hrs and it would be great to get a few Mossies there and show up the A-class's. If enough are interested we can also sort out a BBQ after racing.

Let me know if you are interested.

It looks like it is going to be a good day this Sunday at the beach, is anyone else interested in some sailing/racing at Rye ??

At the moment we have four of us meeting up.

The beach is family friendly so make a day of it. The YC has a canteen where lunches can be purchased.

Address of the YC is here :

Hi Rob,

Mozzies always welcome at McCrae and I'll be racing on Saturday. Failing that I'll see you at Rye on Sunday.

Cheers

Bill,

Did Trevor and Nic show up the "A" class cats as promised ? grin

After Saturday's abandoned Racing @ Somers it would have been good to have a race. Unfortunately a 21st was a prior commitment at Southbank the prior evening. cry

Looking forward to bringing up the rear guard at the States. laugh

Regards,

Peter

Hi All,

Firstly our thanks to Nic for the invite on Sunday, and thanks to the Rye yacht club for putting up with us. Fantastic easy going friendly club.

After Saturdays weather, Sunday turned out to be absolutely perfect for sailing. Peter on Lemon Peel, Bill on Fat Bomber, Simon on Anopheles II and Jake and myself on Just A Toy descended on Nic's (Sanity) peaceful club for a spin around Rye's Windward / Leeward course. Nic even managed to arrange a sizable pod of dolphins to welcome us to the start line.

Everyone made a pretty good start, With Simon and 2 A Class Cats getting the jump on everyone else. At the first windward they were far enough ahead I didnt see the order they went around. Peter, Bill and I were having a good battle for the next 2 laps, with Simon far enough ahead that I couldnt read his sail number. Nic stayed in contention snapping at our heels.

By the start of the 3rd lap, it finally sunk in that I wasnt on the flat surface of Sugarloaf and pulled the strings in the right order. This gave the 'Toy a much needed increase in speed and we were able to haul in the lead that Simon had.

Peter and Bill swapped their lead continually, until Bill lost his centreboard tie down and had to tie a knot each time they rounded the bottom mark. This cost him time that Peter happily took.

By the turn of the next lap we went around the bottom mark with Simon and stayed with him until the last run. Simon elected to go to the left side of the gate course while we went to the right.

We got a great lift on the right side of the course and welcomed the capsize of the leading A Class just in front of us on the way to the finish line.

This gave us line honours in front of the other Mossies and both A Classes. Simon ended up 3rd across followed by Peter, Bill then Nic. The Mosquitoes filled the first 4 places on both VYC and Handicap (BCYS?)

In all a fantastic race, and fantastic day made all the better by line honors grin We may have even managed to open some eyes to the Mosquito as a viable alternative to an A Class laugh

Hi Peter,

My partner is so used to us coming last, when we got back to the beach she asked if we had broken something or forgotten to do a lap frown

Great training for the states for us lake sailors though cool

A great day guys and very enjoyable......got to try and sail with Mossies more often.....Thanks Trev for writing the report, especially after Simon and I press ganged you as part of your winnings.

It was really good to be able to show the other cat guys at the yacht club how much fun our class is and also how good the people are. Many thanks guys.

See you at the States guys for some hopefully good close racing at our end of the fleet.

Nice report Trev smile

Thanks to Nick for the invite and to the Rye locals for making us so welcome.

Trev and Jake seemed to have found the "turbo" button so watch out for them at the states wink Can't believe they caught me! cry cry My move on the last leg was a desparate attempt to find some way to fend them off but alas they outsailed me to collect a much deserved win and left me pondering what might have been. cry cry

No doubt the states will give us all a reality check but it was great to be out with some Mozzies having a crack at each other "up the front" for a change smile

Reckon we should slot it in the diary as an annual event.

Hi Tim, my feeling exactly.......on the weekend we were actually talking about trying to organise a traveller series with maybe a visit to a different yacht club every 4-6 weeks.

A good way to imporve our skills by sailing against each other (especially for us newbies to the class) and also a great way to advertise the class.

If there is a fair degree of interest I am happy to organise and work it through the association to ensure it has the support of the class as a whole.
