So what's the story? Is this a game changer or just another nice boat? It certainly looks good.

Dunno, never sailed one.

Ask John Tomko and Ian Billings, they have time on one now.

John? Ian?

IMO, It appears to be a solid entry into the list of F18 choices. In the right hands it is quite quick and that can be said about almost all of the current F18's available. If your asking if it's a boat that will create glut of 1 or 2 year old boats in the classifieds I don't see that happening.

I've sailed on one - very nice ride. Hobie's taken additional steps forward with the quality of rigging. Out of the box, it was pretty easy to put together and nothing needed to be replaced, in my opinion. The foils are particularly nice finish and the best I've ever seen out of Hobie. On the water, it pivots nicely and the layout of the stock systems is logical and they work well. It comes well-equipped with Harken gear. It's popular in Europe and many Tiger teams moved to the Wildcat when it became available. Production seems to have gotten ahead of the initial rush for the boat and I'm pretty sure there are new in-the-box boats available in the US. Call your dealer. You'd do fine on an F18, Pete.

It's another F18 is about the fact of it, goes about the same speed and has its strong and weak points. The first few boats had initial hickups, bulkheads coming out of place, boards breaking ect, but that seems to of cleared up a bit now, but they have actually changed the design so that thier differences in the hull between the first one and the latest ones. I think thier big weak point is that they lack bow volume in breezy conditions. At the F18 Worlds, we're a very light crew on a nacra, were going better downwind, the wildcats even with heavier crews seemed to be strugalling quite a bit.

To me they seem fast in the hands on Top sailors but for average level people they might struggle a bit more.

Adopted as new IHCA class.

Hobie Wild Cat

"Hobie Cat Class"

The International and European Hobie Class Association, Hobie Cat Europe and Hobie Cat Company are happy to announce the acceptance of a new Hobie Class to our family:
Hobie Wild Cat

This status, obtained in a very short period (only one year since the official launching) will give the HOBIE WILD CAT the possibility to participate in the main Hobie events : national and continental competitions. The HOBIE WILD CAT joins the already very active fleet of Hobie Cat 14, 16, DRAGOON, FX ONE and TIGER.

The Hobie Class Associations and the Factories Hobie Cat Europe and Hobie Cat Company have already made the first step towards official recognition by ISAF, so that the HOBIE WILD CAT can become an ISAF international class in the shortest possible delay.
