Awesome!

The only nice thing about the cold is that it kills off just about anything that can kill you. No scorpions, gators, snakes, or venomess ducks. That is if you manage to survive the cold yourself.

But the cold didn't kill the sharks, man-o-wars, or stingrays. We don't worry 'bout those wussy little fresh water pests around here.

There's a shark at the zoo. smile I'd expect full fecal expulsion if I saw a shark on the water. Coming from an agrarian backround we don't have too many sharks out in the corn/beans.

Damn....that Shark must be over 25' by now given the article referenced was from 2000.

I'll bet it could swallow one of those itty bitty boats whole!

Here's a question: If I were to sail a boat that is almost a F16, but not quite would you, (either the racers at the event, or the RC), allow me to race with the F16's if it meant getting another boat there? Score me for each race, then at the end of the event DSQ me?

I've still got an FXone sitting in the basement, and a couple that would probably be interested in sailing the Viper. I could just call it the FXonesix. grin

For a club race that would be a non issue: absolutely, no problem. For a national, well, that's harder. Of course you can ask for the activation of the special rule:
Quote

6.1 Grandfathering of boats into the open Open Formula 16 class

6.1 The head of a local Formula 16 class organisation may give dispensation (called grandfathering) to a particular design or class and allow them to become part of the Open Formula 16 class under the following conditions.

6.1.1 The design may not have hulls longer than 5,30 mtr.(17ft 4 inch.) [FX-1: 5.25m]

6.1.2 The design must have a rated jib sail area which is less than 4,25 sq.mtr. and more than 2,75 sq. mtr. (this rule does not apply to single handed setups) [Doesn't apply to solo boats]

6.1.3 Both the SCHRS (ISAF) and Texel rating of the design must be equal to or "slower" than the rating assigned to the Formula 16 class. [Check: FX-1 solo has a 1.017 rating]

6.1.4 When grandfathered, the designs are allowed to race against fully compliant Formula 16 designs in declared "Open Formula 16" races.

So in practice you local F16 Association (aka the US one) can allow you to compete in a FX-1 if they think it is appropriate. You will end up with two set of results: a F16 result with your boat excluded and an "open F16 result".

No. The proposal submitted by the U.S.F16 Class association to GYC specifically calls for a separate start for F16s who are members of the U.S.F16 class association.

The FX-1 would sail in the open class as would any F16s who chose not to join the class association or do not have valid class certification.

Wouldn't work out anyway.

Pete- Will anyone be available to measure boats the few days prior to the event? I believe the training camp will be run out of the GYC, and my boat will be there.

Pete will be at the training camp too and I plan on being on the beach Thursday to measure boats/sails. Robie and Jill are official measurers too, so if you are coming down early, you can have them do it.
