Posts: 976 France | Three sailing news outlets published a letter from the Tornado calls president, Roland Gaebler. Frankly I think this is a fantastic idea. Let's do what the Extreme 40 are doing for all cat classes... | | | Re: Speedsailing

Posts: 1,203 uk | They used to do a thing called the Eurocat games at the Eurocat regatta in Carnac. After racing was done for the day, the top ten pro teams on F18 would do short races around a course that was absurdly close to the shore and concrete harbour wall. short races with lots of mayhem, even a grandstand built for spectators. i learnt a lot about boat handling watching those guys. It was really exciting and a shame they don't do it any more. This may be some sort of comeback

Posts: 3,224 Roanoke Island ,N.C. | So we have to invent a discipline that hasn't existed and cater it to spectators just to be in the olympics? Sounds like a free for all.Starts in 1-35 no matter what. The 1-7 range will have the same effect as a postponement. I guess if that's what it takes, they should run with it. It's just sad that after the AC the folks in charge haven't recognized the validity of fast multihulls in their regular racing environment. The article even said of the tornados ,in 2008,"The Tornados deliver highest media value for sailing events." I say Screw the Olympics, do it as a standalone circuit.

I always liked it when the course was smaller, and you do more laps, etc.
I still prefer point to point, but this would be my second choice, over the traditional buoy race.

Unregistered | i think a rugby type event, or pass the greased watermelon around until you get into the goal (without dropping it) would be fun..
i dont think the Olympics would be to interested, but could be fun (minus the body-checks and trashing each others cat) | | | Re: Speedsailing

And he was talking about supplied boats as well. If a promoter was doing this, Waves would be the simple solution. All the same, easy to transport from site to site, easily stored, bullet proof, and the list goes on. I believe it was ProSail that did the thing with the big multis and the H21 back when. Where is he now? This would be perfect. With Waves it could even be done in stadiums, ala Supercross (if they can bring in hills, jumps and sandpits, one could cerainly bring in water. heck, get 4 wheel dollies under the waves and do it with the hills and jumps ... that would be exciting to see! | | |
