<**** than the Worrell 1000, anyone remember that? Seems pretty familiar – lots of questions, few answers.

I'm going to beg to differ. Assuming all the details with the travel authorization get squared away, I think this will be one of the premier distance races this year.

I'm not trying to sound snippy, but... this is a voluntary deal. I want to do the race; I have the experience to do the race. I accept the risks and know that if I do the race it will only be on a boat that I know is 110% ready and with a skipper I trust. When I did the Worrell, I sailed with a moron that I didn't know... taught me a LOT about what NOT to do. I've had a few other experiences and know to only attempt something like this with a skipper that I trust and mesh well with on the boat. If you have serious reservations about doing a race like this then you (a general "you", not anyone specifically) should stay on the beach. Confidence is key but a respect for the conditions and proper preparation is required.

So I guess we'll have to bring some chickens to pay for any doctor visits while there... I'm not worried.

I just found this discussion group. I'm wondering why this topic isn't listed under 'Distance Races' forum? It might get more attention there (since it's been over 5 weeks since the previous post).

I am 100% onboard for this race.

To all the "I really want to do the race, but look at all these issues..." people: I don't suppose you have volunteered your time to help out with solving some of these issues?

As said above, there are risks that you have to accept in a race of this nature. One of those risks is ditching the boat in the open ocean or beachside in Cuba. Imagine the look on some Cuban's face when you throw the keys over and hop the motor boat for the ride home!

You are, Andrew. The race has changed slightly. The course is now only one way (northbound) and open to all residents of our southern neighbor. All classes of boats are eligible, and start/finish times are not recorded. Nighttime launches are typical

PRO is unofficial, but I believe they will be using boats with Orange/White stripes and a logo. There may even be a few Helicopters available.

No trophies will be awarded, but you will know who the "winners" are. They have the dry feet.

It didn't. You're merely experiencing a sprinkling mist of skepticism. Get out your umbrella - we'll be fine.

And you got this info where? Don't spread rumors if you don't know the facts.

I would hardly say i am "spreading rumors". I even disclaimed it with "unless i am missing the boat . . ."

Does not the post from flumpmaster (and article link) not state this was canceled?

That was a different sailboat race to Cuba. Not the one for the cats.
