Geeesh! Looks like it's time for a little team racing in the Tybee 500! Three individual team organizations compromise 11 of the 13 competing boats. What's up with that? (I speak as one of them).

Time for a new type of racing: distance team racing. Don't think its really been done before...would mean all 10 N20's would have to be within ~3 minutes of each other and all the F18's would have to be within ~30 seconds of each other, for some action-packed finishes of course.

>A1 Grand Prix (A1GP) is a 'single make' open-wheel auto racing series. It is unique in its field in that competitors solely represent their nation as opposed to themselves or a team, the usual format in most formula racing series. <

So in sailing world by country it would be 1st Australia, 2nd France, 3rd ???
In the USA, say done by city 1st Fort Walton, 2nd ???

>Unlike almost all other forms of auto racing, drivers do not score points individually; instead the points they earn are ascribed to their national team. This means that teams can change drivers between rounds, which is often necessary because some drivers have commitments in other formulae, and still accumulate points to their score.<

interesting idea to apply to the T500 (the team points concept).

Would that serve to increase participation by individuals? Are teams limited in size?

At this juncture, it would almost certainly be a run away by Royal. We're not building teams to be competitive but to help other teams, that probably wouldn't do the race otherwise, by sharing resources. I just thought it was interesting that the trend has been bigger and bigger teams. I'm not sure what that says.

I think it says it's expensive and logistical, that's all.

This is similar to auto racing which has done this for decades. It is always cheaper to run more than one car. When I raced, the team that took care of my car took care of three other cars in the series I ran. You had a designated crew person and if one of the cars had an issue (ie: crash) they had plenty of personnel to fix it.

When I ran the St. Pete Grand Prix, the car I was drafting with in qualifying lost it in turn one. I t-boned him and we both slid into the wall. Three corners of the car were destroyed along with the front-end. There was only four hours until the race but because of the extra personnel the team was able to put the car back together in time for race.

This is precisely the reason why we do what we do.

Shared, pooled resources.

I won't be there, so nobody has to worry about getting T-boned.

Right but you'll be at GT300 so the F18 fleet will have to worry smile

Unfortunately, we won't be there for you to t-bone (if you were there...).

Lee, This fan will miss following Team Chums progress. Huge kudos to Velocity, Royal, and Seacats for their parenting the race along!

Brian, looks like the Tybee is an "every other year" event for us since we are doing the GT300 every year. You can still follow us in the GT this year. Hell, if you want to come along as ground crew with us this year, we'd love to have ya.

Lee, I wish I could! I am in the midst of major renovations at home, and am hoping to get away for two long weekends with Team Goose this summer. I will follow you in the Great Texas, and look forward to next years Tybee. All the best, Brian
