If i run out of acetone while cleaning a repair area can i use MEK instead with no ill side effects?

You can use Lacquer thinner - alcohol as long as what you are using will not lift your painted surface. Acetone is the industry thinner / cleaner for resins. As long as there not any wax and the area has been cleaned sanding also works.
